A terrific post and you’re much to kind to me. I’m just trying to hang on to my sanity. Some of the recent posts from members I have enjoyed reading on other topics here, as well as in the other forums, are literally driving me round the bend. I feel like I’m talking to the proverbial brick wall. There is no real nuance in their view of politics, seemingly no understanding that all the candidates, no matter who they are, how they raise their campaign funds, or what their positions are on the issues, is flawed in some significant way. That expecting perfection is hopeless, and that at some point you have to take the “bad” with the good if you wish to do what’s best for the country, your family, your friends, and those less fortunate than you are, but who’s welfare you care about. They simply don’t get that and I simply don’t understand why they don’t. Meanwhile, the people that support trump and/or his politics watch this play out and say, “they’re doing it again!” and are delighted. ..................... I’d like to add that I don’t understand why members here are derailing what I consider to be an important discussion about the 2020 election among those who oppose everything trump stands for by going back and forth with this @TheresTheDagger guy, who is more than happy to send the discussion in a totally different direction of his choosing. He’s done this before. Personally, I don’t think it’s a coincidence.
I have a question for the Progressives here. What chance does Medicare for all have if the ACA only survived because of a handful of Republican senators including one who was dying and is currently facing a lawsuit working it's way through the courts? Y'all perceive the opposition as being moderate Democrats yet those are the people who passed ACA and are very willing to talk about reforming our healthcare system. What about the other party that doesn't even want to talk about the issue? On Democratic debate stages there is a lot of argument regarding whether we should have Medicare for all or strengthen the ACA or some other option as though those are likely outcomes. Neither of them will come to pass as long as Trump is President and McConnell Majority leader.
Things will not change with the defeat of Trump - but things will be better than if he gets re-elected. Progressive can not push forward because the political realities of the right who wishes to not cooperate with the other party unless it serves their party's interest. With that state of politics, no things can not get better. The issue isn't progressive versus moderate. Sanders would not have made a difference as a Republican senate would stonewall every initiative. So what has to happen? The country has to change. And it is changing. The reason Trump was elected was because things were not going well for many people - and he gave them a scapegoat to focus their frustrations and failures on. It's powerful poison. No one will believe that the reason is actually our very capitalist system - not just Republicans, but many Democrats as well. And the truth will not help Progressives. The money is literally stacked against the kind of tax reform needed to fix the problems we face. America is a wounded country, and the vultures smell it. China, Russia, and even Iran smell it and are going in for the kill. The question isn't when will the US economy will collapse but rather how long we can delay it and brace ourselves for impact.
American businesses are very smart and they don't bank on America anymore. They are global businesses.
Looks like running a unity candidate who is focused on the issues hurting America was the winning idea after all.
