Smith makes it official that he will opt out of season. Astros have a lot of arms, but he was likely a 6th/7th inning guy if he played.
If you've made any decent money and have a solid footing in the majors I have a hard time seeing why you wouldn't opt out.
Certainly not crippling, but our pen is basically 2 proven guys right now. We have plenty of options, some really talented, but after Osuna and Pressly there's really not another arm that one could call a safe bet to be a good middle reliever. If we don't have a few guys really step up this bullpen could be ugly.
If you made decent money, money shouldn't be a big motivation. On WS, only applies to guys on teams like Smith's. Personally, I would opt out, assuming decent money, even though opting in is probably a decent decision for most players.
The problem is if you've made decent money already, you are making a substantial amount now. Many players are already going to struggle with having lost 60% of their pay.
Losing 60% or 100% pay lost shouldn't matter as it all should be discretionary funds after having made decent money.
