I get the feeling some of the unrest in Atlanta might be a reason why might end up holding her back. While it isn't her fault and she's done what she can to address I get the feeling the campaign might not want to answer questions about how the Atlanta PD handled things and also give the impression she's leaving the city to hit the campaign trail while it is in crisis. I agree with you. I think Abrams is a better choice. I get the feeling though that she isn't higher on the list might be the impression that she seems to be openly lobbying for the job.
https://theintercept.com/2020/07/02/kamala-harris-wikipedia/ There’s a War Going On Over Kamala Harris’s Wikipedia Page, with Unflattering Elements Vanishing Aída Chávez July 2 2020, 4:52 p.m. California Democratic Sen. Kamala Harris is widely seen as a frontrunner for a spot on the ticket with presumptive nominee Joe Biden, with vetting well underway. Presidential vetting operations have entire teams of investigators, but for the public, when the pick is announced, the most common source for information about the person chosen is Wikipedia. And there, a war has broken out over how to talk about Harris’s career. At least one highly dedicated Wikipedia user has been scrubbing controversial aspects of Harris’s “tough-on-crime” record from her Wikipedia page, her decision not to prosecute Steve Mnuchin for mortgage fraud-related crimes, her strong support of prosecutors in Orange County who engaged in rampant misconduct, and other tidbits — such as her previous assertion that “it is not progressive to be soft on crime” — that could prove unflattering to Harris as the public first gets to know her on the national stage. The edits, according to the page history, have elicited strong pushback from Wikipedia’s volunteer editor brigade, and have drawn the page into controversy, though it’s a fight the pro-Harris editor is currently winning. more at the link
What is with this narrative that Kamala is the frontrunner? What is the metric that is being used? It seems that only in opinion pieces is she touted as a frontrunner and most of those seem to be republican leaning opinions.
Ok I answered my own question and here are poll results. Harris does seem to be at the top of most polls but I would have to think that is name recognition driving those numbers. https://www.vox.com/2020/7/2/213017...-elizabeth-warren-kamala-harris-stacey-abrams I still don't think she should be considered a frontrunner.
I would guess she's the favorite right now - largely by default. Everyone seems to have a significant drawback or hole in their resume - either with BLM, dealing with upcoming virus surges in their states, lack of experience, police history, etc. Rice has one too - lack of campaign experience. But given that this race is largely virtual and kind of throws the typical rulebooks out the window, that may matter less than in the past. Plus she has a great relationship with Biden and long history of working with him.
"Whenever you talk about Tammy Duckworth, you must talk about her legs": https://althouse.blogspot.com/2020/07/whenever-you-talk-about-tammy-duckworth.html excerpt: It's terrible that she suffered this injury, and we owe her great respect and empathy, but if she's going to be the VP candidate, it better not be because we're not allowed to criticize her ideas and her political intentions.
I thought Biden committed to bringing on an African American woman as his VP? Duckworth doesn't appear to fit the bill, unless I'm mistaken?
I know that you have a phd in trolling.. So call me sensitive or whatever, but I feel it's important to point out how low class it is to talk about presence or lack thereof of any human anatomy when context of a conversation revolves around an amputee. Carry on now. I'll show myself out.
"Joe Biden, Racial Identity Politics, and the Vice Presidential Nominee": https://lawprofessors.typepad.com/r...litics-and-the-vice-presidential-nominee.html worth reading in full. excerpt: But the most intriguing candidate for me is Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. Compared to the other candidates, she has not gotten much attention, and outside of New Mexico, few people know her record. But Lujan Grisham already made history as the first Democratic Latina Governor in the U.S. Moreover, nearly 30 percent of Latina/os voted for Trump in 2016, and Biden is underperforming among Latina/os. If Lujan Grisham could appeal to Latina/o swing voters in Arizona and Texas, Democrats would benefit immensely. Lujan Grisham would bring a variety of executive, administrative, and legislative experiences to the ticket. As former Secretary of Health for New Mexico, she has a nuanced understanding of health care and social services—which may be particularly useful as America grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic. She served as a U.S. Representative from 2012 to 2018, where she was Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and dealt with the range of domestic and foreign policy issues. Lujan Grisham’s dynamic presence would also complement Biden’s low-key manner: she is an engaging public speaker who comes across as knowledgeable, energetic, and passionate. As Governor, Lujan Grisham has demonstrated her leadership capacities and her ability to unify the moderate and progressive wings of the Democratic Party. During her first year, she signed progressive legislation on renewable energy, gun safety, labor rights, and minimum wages. Lujan Grisham has a 59 percent approval rating as Governor. She has received national praise for her handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in New Mexico. Such leadership is important to Biden: he has emphasized that he wants a VP who is “ready to be President on day one.” more at the link
She's an interesting choice and would definitely fill a lot of boxes for what Biden needs (progressive, Latina, woman, executive experience).
