It's also an awkward position for the media, which when reporting facts, those facts are taking at criticism of Trump since they counter everything he is saying. The line between criticism and reporting has been blurred ironically by Trump and his followers.

I think more likely is that people like Trump more than sticking it to the MSM. They agree with him and his sensibilities. They feel what he thinks. That's why he is so resonant with them. Afterall one of the qualities they like about him is that he speaks his mind. Basically he says what they feel but can't say because of fear. In other words, they agree with him. But in public they are more diplomatic as they recognize that what he says is offensive. So they don't want to associate themselves publicly with them.

Is this really all that shocking when you look at historical context? The KKK didn't want anyone knowing who their members were afterall. The could walk the streets without anyone knowing how they really felt but still be able to express their views and act upon then away from sight. This isn't about the MSM this is about nationalism and tribalism. About feeling that minorities are ruining this country and white people are better, but knowing that such views are not going to fly in the mainstream and need to be kept hidden. These are people who thinking saying Mexicans are rapists, blacks are thugs, and Muslims are evil is speaking the truth, and love Trump for communicating those things but could never align themselves with them - either publically or within themselves even.

So to me, it's no puzzle what's going on here. Trump is racially divisive and toxic. He's the friend you hesitate to invite to the parties, but the guy you drink beers with in the backyard and feel like he's your best friend.

Democrats, it's too soon to cheer Trump's defeat

Wow... they ran out of Zoom room, but they are actually taking live questions from the audience. I have seen and even done large Zoom calls and usually the presenters are simply broadcasting... this one is taking live questions.

I agree with most of this. I think the hate on the MSM is something that predates Trump and we've been hearing complaints about the "liberal media" for decades. Trump just exploits that and he knows how to play the media. That said I think in some cases it's more than an act. The impression I get from people like Joe Scaraborough and Mika Bryzynski is that it's gotten personal.

We've gone from painting the "media" as biased to being the enemy and that has yes, sadly personalized things. Trump's language has consequences.

So basically you agree with me.
And again 2016 as the most recent election is temporally relevant. I find this an odd argument to say that we should just ignore what happened in the most recent election. I agree we need to recognize what is different but as RayRay10 just posted it's remarkable how similar things still look.
Yes Trump won a very narrow victory and the possibility still exist he could win another one. He didn't really out perform national polls but he certainly out performed many state polls which shows that there was a hidden Trump vote.

Early enthusiasm can become self-defeating if victory is taken for granted.

Further I will point out again that for yourself and other posters often seem to point to things that didn't go well for Trump in 2016 but then say we should ignore what went well for him in 2016.

The big wildcard in this election is how will coronavirus impact voting. I don't things are the same as 2016 and if voting would be normal on nov 3 I think Biden almost certainly wins. But...with many democrats being hesitant to vote in person and the war on absentee ballots, that might be enough to swing an election to Trump.

I can't wait till for a few weeks from now when you warn us about the deeply troubling news of Esperanto speakers not meeting projected numbers in terms of Biden support.

It's really bad when you have to cherry pick at cross tabs in a poll that shows a huge beatdown.

Let's suspend disbelief and say that one poll from late June represents the gold standard - it's literally over before it starts. That poll is Biden +14 . And it was taken before 2 weeks of horrible record COVID19 numbers.

If that poll is correct or predictive, the networks will declare a winner at like 830 EST. You don't need to look at any cross tabs or electoral math in that instance.

If you look at that poll and say "wow Biden is blowing it" you're not doing it correctly

He doesn’t think America is great. His message isn’t make America better... it is make America great AGAIN.

Also if the USA right now is his idea of “great again” then he can go **** himself.

We agree in principle but not in philosophy. I believe what we are seeing now stems generations and its now starting to proliferate. It really started to tumble under Obama. Hope and Change quickly lead to more pandering to the elite. We are starting to realize its a much bigger issue than a few white wealthy men. Greed and corruption is everywhere. Even a crazy right winged progressive like Trump did nothing to move the needle. And we all know a nut job like Bernie will not either. The only one who ever made sense was Yang.

How bad are you that your best slogan is 'not trump'? Worse than Hillary?

    2020 Election results are like:
    ( ) Trump
( ) Not Trump (im not sure who is running. Kayne? Isn't Biden his VP?)

And at this point, Not Trump is going to win.

He has been branded as not Trump... precisely because that is enough to beat a walking disaster incumbent... it was done on purpose.
