the IRS can't go back past 7 yr before the most recent current audit.

take Trump for his words that he is under audit for tax yr 2018, w a filing deadline of Apr 2019.
thus, Trump's 2011 tax return and prior are no longer subject to IRS audit; he can release these tax returns

 

It's no surprise that the two newest Justices (Kavanaugh and Gorsuch) ruled this way too when you think about their own self interest long term past Trump. Keep in mind that the McConnell/Federalist Societies goal over the past 6 years to ensure that the court is solidified for generations with a conservative court that'll do everything in its power to keep liberal change from occurring through the executive branch, and through Congress if laws can be contested (see ACA). Keeping the government Capitalists and billionaire/corporate focused is the #1 key. The people who fund the Federalist society and the Republican Party as a whole could care less about Trump or Trumpism. They care about one thing and one thing only... their money.

They see the court structure as the system that will ensure a Democratic President will not be able to be successful in any way in turning the government into an system that serves the poor before the rich, and serves Capitalism & the almighty dollar above anything else.

 

Yep...McConnell got the W on their appointments. He steered Trump to select these two knowing that they would fit his idea of conservatism...not the Trumpian populism that he knows will die out at some point...probably sooner rather than later.

Got to hand it to Mitch, he is incredibly savvy and pulling the strings that need to be pulled for his side to win. The Dems', and Biden's enemy, really isn't Trump...it's Mitch. If the Republicans take the Senate, expect more of what happened the last 6 years under Obama. Dems have to pull out all the stops for the Senate.

 

Yeah the only way that Democrats and Progressives see the changes that they and we all mostly want is to focus on Congress, and expanding the electorate in a way that allows for fair Congressional elections. Because the courts will be stacked for generations in a way to strike down any and everything that isn't a Congressionally passed law with a super majority.

 

also, a close review of his tax returns will reveal how Trump had reported the payments to p*rn star Stormy Daniel.

if the trust-fund baby had reported such payments as business exp for one of his companies, it'd be a tax fraud

 

...I'm still amazed at how so many "savvy" observers who watched and applauded how Congress actively roadblocked Obama and Democrats at virtually every turn still insist that all of that dysfunction was solely on the administration...

...when there's been nary a peep out of anybody regarding how the Donald has had Republicans rubber-stamp everything he wanted to do...and the Donald is hardly more than a self-serving opportunist, who couldn't possibly care less about how our democracy is supposed to work than Stephen Miller or John Bolton does...

...hell, John Boehner, at the thought of "losing" legislatively to Obama in the middle of a financial meltdown of the economy...went out of his way to turn over the Republican party to the Tea Party, or whoever else was willing to "fight" the Kenyan usurping half-Negro and keep him from destroying America...( I suppose someone would give Boehner credit for crying his way through all that, too)

...the problem, as it's been for several years, is with the Congress.

...and depending on the administration...too many of us are thoughtlessly ready to say everybody's doing the same thing wrong...

 

I’m not too bothered by this and I don’t think the court is necessarily the right instrument for change. The nature of the court means it should be conservative, emphasis on the small ‘c’. As such it should be a check in the other branches when they overreach.

Unfortunately the last three activist courts have made people to believe that the court is forum for making radical change. In many ways that’s eroded the standing of the court and why people on both sides derided it as “Nine unelected people deciding for the whole country.” The other branches particularly the Legislative Branch should be where major changes are made.

 

I'm happy to see that Kavanaugh is interested in judicial independence and is a much more measured Justice than what his hearings made him out to be. This just shows though that his performance at his hearing was just that, a performance. His faux outrage and tears were a ploy to gin up indignation among Republican Senators and most important Trump.

 

I was reading some of the Gorsuch's opinion on the Oklahoma case and he's showing again he's a textualist. He's driven less by ideology and more by what the text says. I could see him upsetting Conservatives in future rulings where they want to see a more expansive reading of Constitutional principles such as the on the power of the Presidency.

 

It is accepted that Trump's tax returns aren't going to be seen until after the election. They are going to keep on pulling every legal lever they can to prevent that. The ruling was to reaffirm the rule of law and not specifically to punish Trump.

 

So SCOTUS and one narrow religion want to tell the country who is more human and who is less human. It’s a good 21st century look, gents.
