it's still missing players regardless of the reason. and the unpredictability is exactly what rivers is referring to. This will be a hard ship for any team to win.

Six FC players from Dallas tested positive in the mls bubble in Orlando

The timeline of FC Dallas positive cases:

June 3 – One player tests positive, 2nd player in MLS. (Reported by MLS)
June 18-19 – Two more cases while still in Frisco (we reported on June 24). A 4th suspected case turns out to be some other “old school” illness.
June 27 – FCD travels to and arrives in Orlando.
June 28 – FCD holds its first training session and has two more positive tests.
June 29 – FCD has one more positive test. (We reported the 3 new cases in Orlando on June 29.)
June 30 – FCD has three more positive tests. (We’re reporting today, July 1.)

If this timeline is true (that they arrived on the 27th and had training the next day), the MLS protocols aren't nearly as stringent as the NBA.

The NBA is doing the 48-hour isolation protocol upon entering (with two negative tests that are 24 hours apart) for that specific reason — the high likelihood of someone bringing COVID with them, especially if they're coming from a hot spot like Dallas.

Not saying it's a perfect protocol, but it's a lot better than MLS. Even so, should serve as a cautionary tale for everyone to minimize contact as much as possible in those first few days.

The NBA and National Basketball Players Association have spent this week holding mandatory virtual meetings with the 22 teams set to resume the 2019-20 season in Orlando this month. Both parties have referred to the sessions as a “Campus Orientation Meeting,” allowing the league and the players union to go over their health and safety protocols, the Disney World campus experience, game operations and overall decorum.

As coronavirus cases rise in different regions across the United States, commissioner Adam Silver has made clear that the league is monitoring the numbers as it prepares to head for Orlando. Silver has described to league executives on conference calls recently that his goal is for the Disney World campus to be the safest place in the U.S.

“We have confidence in the plan that we’ve built,” NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum told players and teams on a call this week, according to sources. “It was designed for this.”

This includes a potential rise in coronavirus cases as well as the NBA having players test positive. Health protocols have been put in place, as The Athletic has documented, during the league’s hiatus that began on March 11. Tatum stressed that the coronavirus has made everything fluid at times and the NBA will be mindful of that.

Here are some details from what was a mandatory call for players, which The Athletic learned about via multiple sources:

    — The NBA is developing a phone application called “NBA Campus,” which will be a 24/7 service for players and members of the traveling party in Orlando to have access to food delivery, concierge, barbers, scheduling workouts and more.

    — A player is able to leave the bubble for a family emergency, but must be tested every day still and have a four-day self-quarantine upon reentry.

    — Disney’s staff on campus will be allowed to go home, but the league and union are working to ensure a larger group of them undergo a testing protocol.

    — Upon arrival to the campus, players will undergo a 36-48 hour quarantine period. Here is what players were told would be available to them while they are in their rooms: Food and beverages; entertainment (fire sticks, gaming hook-ups); wellness resources; events/health applications; and special social justice programming.

    — The NBA is working with AdventHealth to provide a medical clinic on the campus and it will be the primary place for medical care. The league has secured VIP access to another health care center at Lake Buena Vista off of the campus.

    — The league told players and teams that they are evaluating whether to restart the technical foul counts in the resumed season — or leave as is.

    — There will be no fans in attendance, but the NBA will have virtual screens around the arena to provide an enhanced feel for television audiences.

Two weeks ago, the NBA and NBPA finalized the 113-page health and safety manual that will govern the 2019-20 resumption. The NBPA also distributed an extensive summary to all players about what life will be like inside of the bubble.

NBA teams are continuing to conduct daily coronavirus testing and utilizing this time period to ensure player safety and health. This week, two Brooklyn Nets tested positive for coronavirus. Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie told The Athletic that he has tested positive and has symptoms, which has cast doubts about his playing status. Center DeAndre Jordan announced he tested positive for coronavirus and has opted out of playing.

More teams across the NBA have also had multiple positive tests, and this was always bound to be part of the return process. Silver and the players union have both said openly that this is the new normal. For now, everyone is adjusting to it.

And he is also saying that the bubble conditions plus real world issues are additional stressors.

Rivers is not saying the asterisk should indicate how much more difficult winning a championship will be this season compared to past seasons under normal conditions.

Lol, this makes sense of they're traveling from a hot spot to a safe area.

Instead they're going to one of the worst possible places in the world to have it and they know it.
