    This is a common trope among Republicans. I've seen Trump supporting friends post stuff like "A Democrat led the longest filibuster ever to oppose the Civil Rights Act." Of course forgetting that that Democrat, Strom Thurmond, quickly switched parties after a Democrat signed the law.

    The use of the word "Opportunity" is code to their white racist base also. That word is ALWAYS used in messaging around race and the Republican party going back to Nixon/Reagan. Using the word "Opportunity" creates this framework to the white base that

    "Hey we give them the ability to pull themselves up from their bootstraps, but Democrats just want to create a nanny state. If only black and brown people just had more motivation and work as hard as us white people, they would be just as successful. Blame the Democrats, and laziness of colored people."
