Where did the notion come from that forcing people to wear masks is unconstitutional? Some Trump Facebook group? My goodness.
Haha. I put LOTR on for my kids this week figuring it would buy me a few hours of work from home with limited interruption. Good Lord, was I wrong. Like not even close. First, the concept of a DVD player in a streaming universe is mystifying and frustrating for children. Second, the questions, so many questions! Why are there 2 gollums What happened to the other rings Wait there's 2 kings Why is gandalf sometimes wearing white and bad Who's the main bad guy again Etc
They had an easier time understanding the concept of a Palantir stone than the chapter select function.
It’s no wonder they’re trying to suppress the vote so much. Donald Trump admitted on Monday that making it easier to vote in America would hurt the Republican party. The president made the comments as he dismissed a Democratic-led push for reforms such as vote-by-mail, same-day registration and early voting as states seek to safely run elections amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Democrats had proposed the measures as part of the coronavirus stimulus. They ultimately were not included in the $2.2tn final package, which included only $400m to states to help them run elections. “The things they had in there were crazy. They had things, levels of voting that if you’d ever agreed to it, you’d never have a Republican elected in this country again,” Trump said during an appearance on Fox & Friends. “They had things in there about election days and what you do and all sorts of clawbacks. They had things that were just totally crazy and had nothing to do with workers that lost their jobs and companies that we have to save.” Democrats often accuse Republicans of deliberately making it hard to vote in order to keep minorities, immigrants, young people and other groups from the polls. And Republicans often say they oppose voting reforms because of concerns of voter fraud – which is extremely rare – or concerns over having the federal government run elections. But Trump’s remarks reveal how at least some Republicans have long understood voting barriers to be a necessary part of their political self-preservation. “I don’t want everybody to vote,” Paul Weyrich, an influential conservative activist, said in 1980. “As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.” Trump’s Monday comments showed he saw voter suppression as part of his re-election strategy, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) said in a statement Monday. “Ensuring that Americans can vote during the Covid-19 crisis is fundamental to maintaining our democracy. It is shocking that Trump is essentially admitting that when the American people vote, Republican lose,” said Xochitl Hinojosa, a DNC spokeswoman. “Trump knows that suppressing the vote is the only way he and Republicans win in November.” and also... Georgia state House Speaker David Ralston (R) is coming out against a recent effort taken by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) to mail absentee ballot request forms to all voters in the state amid the coronavirus pandemic, saying the move could be “devastating” for Republican candidates. Last week, Raffensperger announced the state would be mailing absentee ballot request forms to its nearly 7 million voters “in an effort to allow as many Georgia voters as possible to exercise their right to vote without leaving their homes.” “Let me emphasize,” he continued. “Let me say that again, every registered voter is going to get one of these. Now, I ask you, because I know you keep up with this, what was the turnout in the primary back in to 2018 or 2016?” “Was it 100 percent?” Ralston asked. “No. It’s way, way, way lower and so, you know, this is going to, this will certainly drive up turnout.” They know it’s a wrap if more people are able to vote. If all these young people that are out protesting actually go out and vote, we could be talking a 4-0 sweep. Trump doesn’t care about coronavirus, and we had GOP officials like Dan Patrick going on Fox News saying that old people should sacrifice themselves for the economy. Many Republican grandmas and grandpas aren’t with that BS. How many of them will switch to Biden because they’re not interested in being told to just accept things and possibly die? The generation gap is even more powerful when it comes to Republicans. To put it bluntly, young adults hate them. In 2018, voters under 30 supported Democratic House candidates over Republican ones by an astounding 67 percent to 32 percent. A 2018 Pew survey found that 59 percent of millennial voters identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, while only 32 percent identify as Republicans or lean Republican. Several factors contribute to this generational trend. The most significant is that young adults have spent their lives surrounded by diversity. As Brooks points out, “Only 16 percent of the Silent Generation is minority, but 44 percent of the millennial generation is.” The more Republicans double down on Trump’s overt racism, voter suppression tactics, and xenophobic immigration policies, the more they’ll distance themselves from young adults.
I'm not going to get involved in what your dispute is with him but as far as him paying a debt I have no reason to doubt him and if he doesn't I'm sure the rest of Clutchfans will remind him.
If Biden wins and the Dems control the Senate and House, this needs to get nipped in the bud immediately. Voting shouldn’t be something that one party takes away from its citizens in order to win...if you can’t win, change your mindset.
Yup. If this is truly a Democracy, then we should be doing things in order to allow as many people to vote as possible. The Republicans have been getting away with voter suppression for decades. It needs to be stopped once and for all. The Republican Party’s days are numbered as more and more of these close minded conservatives die off and are replaced with more open minded younger people.
This is actually a state issue, they control these things. Hopefully the blue wave washes out some of these state legislators as well.
Over the past 40 years this was a brilliant strategic move by the GOP to focus on lower ballot elections. It's what has kept the party both influential but also one reason why the party has shifted the right as much of the focus was on getting ideologues elected in lower positions such as school board. That built up the structure and the pool of candidates for higher office.
Yeah and it's one of my biggest critiques of Obama and his team, this should have been a high priority and him not campaigning for state races really hurt.
