Arbitrary and capricious rulemaking is something Trump agencies have done several times, particularly in the high-profile political moves. Our amateur president bullied our agencies into taking short cuts for electoral reasons they probably knew were fatal flaws to the ultimate aim of changing government policy. I doubt this will be the last Trump reform we see go down in flames because they didn't respect the process.

For folks that like Trump's policy bent: how do you like having a president who doesn't understand the federal machine well enough to guide his reforms through Supreme Court scrutiny? Wouldn't you rather have someone who wasn't such an amateur?

As for DACA, he'll have to win re-election first if he wants to kill it. Maybe he can get it done by the end of a second term, but he has ironically jeopardized the whole effort by thinking he could take a short cut. If he had launched a normal process, it'd be done by now and the USSC in 2022 would probably have allowed it.

This Administration is just not very good at following pesky little things like rules and laws and such. Must be frustrating for him.

Trump is stupid, but he is smart enough to know to throw 2nd amendment bullshit into anything he says to get his base fired up. Scare the people into believing the liberals are coming after their guns. I assume it will be one of the common themes of his re-election bid. I'm surprised he doesn't show up with a gun to his rallies to get his base more fired up.

Trump really hasn't accomplished much when I think about it other than the usual tax cuts that any of the other GOP candidates could have passed or the two SCOTUS judges which is really more of a testament to Mitch's gaming the system and Cruz/Jeb/Rubio could have very well nominated the same two people any way.

I mean, someone can correct me here, feel free but...

The Wall is a mess hasn't stopped any thing.
    Gun Rights hasn't been secured.
    Abortion rights still exist.
And oh yeah, looks like DACA is still a thing.

Really, all the big conservative social issues have been bust for Trump.

I'd say the only thing he's accomplished is giving businesses more money (which any GOP candidate would have done) and worsening relationships with allies and the world in general which I know some conservatives favor this kind of isolationism so I guess that can also go on a list of his accomplishments I guess?

I just think Rubio/Jeb/Cruz would have gotten a lot more done and would have been a lot more effective than this...I sort of understand now all the anti-trump ads run by conservative groups now.

I don't think Trumpism is working for the GOP.

It's pretty clear Roberts fully realizes he's the last line of defense against Trump's sick version of America.

I see a lot of people saying the Supreme Court is already conservative, so one more is not that big a deal. But one more heavily right judge will open the floodgates that Roberts seems to be holding shut. If RBG goes down it will get ugly.

Good for them, and again this should have been 9-0. Trump wanted to Supreme Court to do his political work for him so he could have an alibi in the election. He has the ability to do away with the program himself but he's too gutless to do the actual work to dismantle the program.

Trump's position was basically Executive Orders are illegal if the President is a Democrat, when at the exact same time they are holding the exact opposite opinion in front of the Supreme Court on other cases where they want Dictator like powers on issues they care about for Trump's own personal interests.

Good on John Roberts here, but honestly this should have been a 9-0 decision. The Supreme Court is not the branch of the government that should be responsible for political bidding. Executive Orders are legal, but reversible. Congressional laws are the law of the land that stands where Presidents cannot reverse after an election. It's just that simple.

Yeah, I've seen some people say silly crap like that.

One more conservative judge means Roberts can do nothing about crazier decisions.
