    If HBO is really going to slap film 'racist material warning' on films they have a very long job ahead of them.

    HBO only really cares about subscribers and money anyways.

    obviously

    they created this controversy for this very reason.

    I HAVE HBO MAX and I didn't even know they have Gone with the Wind.
    Most people get HBO for the original series and the NEW MOVIES

    Oh, look John Wick 3, That movie with the Rock and the British dude.. etc

    If they never PUBLICLY SAID they are REMOVING Gone with the Wind,

    NOBODY WOULD EVER NOTICE

    You're probably right, I didn't even know what HBO MAX was when it appeared on my smart screen. It's a smart way to generate PR

    There’s a difference between movies being racist coincidentally or flippantly instead of using it as a vehicle to drive the narrative

    Before all of this crap happened, this is the CEO explaining why you should drop $15 a month on it

    He highlights
    ' FRIENDS' and 'LOONEY TUNES' as new content

    The only OLD MOVIES shown

    'Cassablanca'
    'The Wizard of Oz' - Great Movie by the way

    Speaking of the Wizard of Oz
    There was remake of it with Michael Jackson and Diana Ross

    @Ziggy @Reeko

    Probably the best character..

    @Os Trigonum

    HBO doesn't like Michael Jackson though

    Oh man, The Wiz...I think I’ve seen that movie more than the Wizard of Oz. School I went to when I was younger had that movie and we watched it at least once a week for a good couple of months. I think one week, it played all day and I sat there and watched at least 2-3 playthroughs.

    I thought the name 'change' was to be in solidarity with Lady G.

    Never associated their name to the Civil War until right now. I think some are just doing it to be talked about

    Antebellum is definitely associated with the old south and the period of the Civil War.

    I don't agree the name should be changed but that word is associated with a particular time and place.

    I always thought it was for any war not specific war until I read the comments in their tweets.
    I should file my discovery in the hangout's "Name an interesting fact you found out" thread.

    I have never seen it entirely either but I guess it depends on what you value in a movie.

    Visually I think it's great but it's not a plot I am interested in.

    The acting is also supposed to be very good.

    There’s lots of good old movies
    All the Hitchcock stuff, dr zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia
    All the corny Elvis movies
    I never had an interest in seeing this one but now that it’s in the spotlight I’m curious.

    HISD actually bussed students from the 9 black high schools to the old River Oaks theater to see a "special" presentation of GWTW. At that time blacks were not allowed in the River Oaks and the other movie theaters in Houston. This is how I first got to see the movie in it's entirety. In terms of technical aspects of movie making, GWTW was a masterpiece both visually and audibly. In terms of story and characters it was a load of racist bullshit.

    It depicted the "Lost Cause" of the Confederacy in vivid and sympathetic tones. Southern men were heroic and brave. Vivian Leigh's Scarlett O'Hara and Olivia DeHaviland's Melanie were perfect representations of the Southern belle. The KKK was depicted as a "tragic necessity" while the racial slurs flowed freely. Slaves were depicted as childlike and stupid. They sang Negro hymns as they were marched to the battlefields to dig trenches for the Confederate soldiers. Hattie McDaniel's Mammy was the prototype house Negro while Butterfly McQueen's Prissy was the epitome of the lazy, shiftless Negro. Oscar Polk's Pork was the ideal obedient slave (he was also dumb as a rock). Plantation slaves were played as docile and content, more dedicated to their white masters than to the struggle of their fellow enslaved people (and totally uninterested in leaving the plantation after the war). And like D.W. Griffth's "The Birth Of A Nation" it casts the freed slaves of the Reconstruction era as morally dangerous and politically naïve as they teamed up with the carpetbaggers from the North to exploit and profit from the tragedy and heartache of those noble persons who lost the war. It is ideal movie for Trump and the MAGA crowd. I hear it's currently the No. 1 movie on Amazon's best seller list - must be required viewing for all of the police unions.
