How much will it matter? How would he coach a game if not from the bench?

We need MDA's philosophies not his sub schedule. MDA is a roll the ball out and play kind of coach anyway. He will be missed on ATO's if he isn't on the bench.

it's time like this that we wish we had someone like JBB to lead the team on the bench if the elderly coach is not allowed to be on the bench.

Where are you JBB????? in time of 20% unemployment, JBB somehow always stay employed

In all honesty, D'antoni looks pretty darn good for 69.

This is kind of a nonsense view of COVID19. There's no magic age cutoff at CDC /socialsecurity retirement age and also the severe health risks, like lung scarring, kidney damage, stroke, blood clots etc go from about age 0 to 100.

Get him a second bubble. A bubble within a bubble. And I would probably double bubble the bubble incase there is an oil leak inside the original bubble. Anyone over 65 has the potential leakage.

Gee whatever would we do without MDA's myriad of adjustments, timely substitutions and wise calling of timeouts...

...really he had gotten better at his timeouts...

Shoot threes and shoot more threes. Nothing earth shattering about coaching that he would need to adress and draw up continually during games.

I didn't think mike d'antoni would want to go out like this in the final year of a contract.

God speed mike d'antoni and his personal body guard, Isiah 'million dollar man' hartenstein.

MDA system and philosophy with someone else calling timeouts and running rotations.

    WIN - WIN

I was about to say that the NBA not allowing MDA to coach is BS and won’t fly . I’m in favor of moving on from him next year in all likelihood, but not having the coach on the sidelines IS a huge detriment ... even if we think he makes mistakes . (Just from a moral standpoint)

HOWEVER .... I would love to see Morey coach haha . I do think he’d be pretty good .

Looking at MDA’s playoff futility, could not be happier if someone else coached in the playoffs.

It is ageism, abeit with positive intention. There are things a coach can see or hear court side that he won't remotely. And could affect game preparation. If NBA want absolute fairness all head coaches coach remotely. But they won't do that.

Currently the NBA front row bench seats are shoulder to shoulder. Are they going make them six feet apart? I doubt it. Doctors talk about if you sneeze or cough do it away from other people. What about bodily fluids of sweat that are everywhere.

Just because an assistant coach or a player under is under 65, don't mean they don't have senior relatives they don't want to see in person again if contracting asymptotically. While seniors are at a higher risk, USA is one of the top countries % wise, who under 65 covid patients had to seek serious medication help.

While I'm not oppose to NBA's suggestion, it is a disadvantage. I advise Rockets assistant coaches to get a headset like the NFL, so if MDA wants a timeout or a coach challenge, they can with as little delay as possible. Even if official game management is given to assistant, having a head coach by the ear is good.

Teams expected to make deep into playoffs, could stay a long time. Mental fatigue will creep in for players, quarantined in that facility. It's a road game trip that could span 2-3 months. A coach, who's there in person, could probably better detect these kind of things. Then give encouragement or try morale boosters quicker.

    On a silly note:
** What if MDA comes court side in a full hazmat suit (with air conditioning)... And that suit is clutch the bear ʅʕ•ᴥ•ʔʃ

If not, coach Turner should practice worried pacing around the announcer table like MDA would. Or the double arm folding with a disappointing look at the refs. Occasionally give an Italian temper for that bad call.
    ... **

This doesn't make much sense. Won't D'Antoni have contact with other coaches and players during practices and in the locker room?

To truly protect him, you would have to isolate him at all times or it won't do much good.
