people trying to gain clout and get social media famous...it happens all the time

saw a bunch of this with the Hong Kong situation...people and all their fake outrage/convenient activism over Hong Kong in order to get some likes on IG or retweets on Twitter...then the minute the NBA starts all that talk of Hong Kong is dead

 

Not surprising. Disappointing by thankfully law abiding unlike many others.

 

The men in those instances are more disappointing. The women don't know any better.

 

or the ones who pretty much never talk basketball on here, but instead have 95% of their posts consisting of racist rhetoric or political agendas...fake, and trying to divide the board

 

I've done more pathetic things to hop in the sack with 22 year olds including spending $500 on taylor swift tickets back in 2009.

I've seen this too. At a neighborhood meeting the other day one of the organizers said we need to keep out the disaster tourists.

I heard she had been fired. I completely agree what she did was crass and very out of touch but this is one area where I think firing might be too much. She didn't hurt anyone and this wasn't a malicious act.

 

Have to disagree...being a journalist requires ethics and integrity to do the job...while we see many these days that have neither, it doesn't hurt to send a message to someone just entering the industry that this is unacceptable. If more outlets would do this, we'd have a lot less lies, disinformation, and spin and more truth and facts.

I mean, what happens above is what leads to reports like this where the reporter is going on and on about people not wearing masks...and his own cameraman isn't wearing one:

 

Washington Examiner probably doesn't want the bad press - they have every right to fire someone who may make them look bad. Especially given they are a right wing publication and we all know how much they are about supporting political correctness, right @Os Trigonum ?

There was the other case, I think it was CNN, where a reporter was reporting on flooding from a canoe and someone walked behind them showing that the water was only about 10" deep.

I'm not saying what she did wasn't wrong but that I think the punishment might be excessive. There is a role for social shaming and for using the Internet call people out. The situation with Amy Cooper when she faked a 911 call because she was annoyed a birdwatcher is one of those times. That was a malicious act. This was crass and it should be called as that and she should be expected to make a public apology. Firing her and having that anchor on her future career prospects seems disproportionate to what she did.
