I have a rat problem, I have been used poison before but this rat seems immune to it. I have tried the wooden trap and the rat is Houdini and just eats the bait. What is the best way to get rid of it and what is a good trap, I am thinking of ordering the Trex trap and glue pads. Any ideas/
I used a ramp, a trash can, and a piece of cardboard with food on it. I cut the cardboard so it would be unstable after they walked on it and then they fall right in. Caught a family of mice at my house like this.
You need one of those old fashioned wood traps with the copper parts. If it was a mouse trap I would say pull the 'guillotine' part back and hold it firmly with one hand, grab the copper part where the bait goes and carefully bend the lip back where the rod touches it, but you may need to use pliers for a rat trap. The idea is to give it a hair-trigger. If you go too far, just bend it back. Try it and you'll see what I mean. Here's a video with a mouse trap where the guy bends the part I mentioned: If it's a rat get a large trap. You might even put a bag under it or something as even mice can make a mess when they're killed. Coat it really well with peanut butter. But be careful playing around with it; even little mouse traps hurt if they go off on your fingers. Glue traps are inhumane and you can end up poisoning other animals if they eat a poisoned rat.
I've tried some plastic traps in the past and on a couple occasions all they did was badly injure the mice. I had to finish them off myself. They're awful things IMO. These look pretty bad ass, so maybe they'll work. Good luck!
Seriously, you should check out some of those rat trap videos on YouTube. I don't know how, but I got drawn into a wormhole of rat trap videos a few months ago where people around the world basically take a bucket and 2 or 3 other things and catch rats by the bucket. Some of them were pretty simple and ingenious. Not sure what you're going to do with the rats after catching them. A lot of them revolved around suspending some food on the top of the bucket and when then putting some weight-triggered drop as they came up to get it. They'd fall into the bucket and not be able to get out. If you want them dead, put water in the bucket... I guess they'll eventually drown.
You get rid of the problem by a combination of sealing up all openings and glue traps... Or, as has been mentioned, get a cat.
