Force can only be used to prevent a violent felony, Mr. Zimmerman said, adding, “What is not lawful is, you can’t detain somebody and then use force.”

A lot of citizens have a weak grasp of the intricacies of the law. I think many people know the big no-no's and try to legally justify what they think as rightful action after-the-fact. Racist action or racial-profiling or whatever was in these dude's heads, society would be better served if the information on when it is lawful to detain someone be more discussed and communicated by everyone.

 

I haven't seen anything yet that legally justified the "citizens arrest" under the statute or the relative case law in Georgia.

too many people are stupid, and too many of these stupid people have a gun on them at all times which gives them the courage to put themselves in dangerous situations trying to play hero or be judge, jury, and executioner

U are bringing guns to confront a person and going through all this trouble to block him on the street because u saw him in a house under construction? U didn’t even see him commit a crime, and even if he did, what would it be? Trespassing, and maybe stealing some easily replaceable item left at the site which he didn’t even do? U couldn’t let the cops handle something so minor? Who does that? They should prepare their butts for this prison time.
