Not exactly "spread" but... it's all over the map https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/covid-19-death-rate-vs-population-density
Dr. Fauci is relying on models, which need data to be input in order to project predictions. Models aren't perfect and depending on the data that you input, it can definitely lead to multiple scenarios. Look at hurricanes, we will know when there is one out there days before it hits, however, even the best models don't actually pin point the exact landing spots until the hurricane is a lot closer to touching land and even then, they change trajectory where the model may not have predicted that or scientists decided to believe a different model (i.e I remember when Hurricane Rita was suppose to be Katrina v2 for the City of Houston and everyone evacuated, then it turned out to be a fluke). People don't seem to understand that Dr. Fauci is working off models and projections. You have worst case, best case and everything in between. If he predicts somewhere in between, you can be under prepared or over prepared. Predicting the worst case, likely wrong, but at least you were conservative enough to cause a reaction by predicting the worst case. Predict best case scenario and you are taking a huge risk on being wrong and being under prepared. It's like people that were angry that Judge Hidalgo spent millions on the temporary medical facilities. Thankfully, they weren't used, but if we would of gotten hit, the overflow capacity would of been there. Unfortunately, Fauci will not get the benefit of the doubt from anybody if it goes against what they believe. People can predict all kinds of **** and then sing glories if they are right. Like the old saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day. I'd like to believe the public is smart, but time and time again I am proven wrong. People seem to live in a black and white world (whether they are educated or not educated). Based on all the data that is out there for this virus, scientists are just starting to grasp how this virus works, how it mutates, it's history, etc etc. I'm sure variables in the models are likely being updated weekly and hopefully at some point we have enough understanding to make better predictions. It's unfair to come after Fauci, when he is working off the limited data he has, plus the real world scenarios that were playing out in Italy, China, France and other areas at the time. He probably was also working with history of SARS and MERS (two semi-relatable outbreaks).
Wisconsin SC has blocked Gov. Evers shut down orders aren’t legal. I actually agree with the argument that having the Executive solely make decisions of this nature is a problem but WI’s state legislature has previously empowered the Gov’s office to address issues dealing with disease outbreaks. More generally though this shows how this country is poorly equipped to deal with this type of crisis. I’m posting from my phone so see link for story https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/13/poli...rt-strikes-down-stay-at-home-order/index.html
So trump defenders attack Dr. Bright. burgess is a former doctor (OB-GYN), but someone should challenge him to provide the names of "lots of doctors" who tell him that "hydroxychloroquine works for COVID-19 patients"...
The sad thing is you believe this crap. Yeah, Democrats want to be unemployed to spite Trump. They don't need to pay bills. Eat. Small things like that. A good picture though, if you remove the donkey. If Trump represents the "U.S. Economy", yes, he's in deep water because he put himself there. He put himself there. If he'd taken any of this seriously before March, we wouldn't be in such a deep hole. Testing would have been more widely available, earlier. Why not get a picture of Trump holding Fauci and the CDC underwater?
Hey if they can't afford COBRA let them get sick and die. The American way. I thought everyone could keep their insurance if they wanted to.
I don't get how more people getting sick also doesn't keep Trump under the water... the economy is going to stay ****ed regardless of if a nail salon is open or not.
https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2020/05/reopening-isnt-reopening-its-cutting-off-unemployment.html Interesting article saying that the conservative states like Texas want to force people back to work whether they feel safe or not just to support their man Trump, but to deprive the laid off workers of unemployment insurance if they fail to go back-- perhaps out of fear of infecting themselves or family members. Great! Ordered back by the TX Governor and in many cases absentee owners or mangers waiting out the pandemic in their houses or yachts etc. I have been told told that due to lack of resources put into the Texas Workforce Commission a lot of folks could not even get their unemployment claims processed. Great! We not only are starting to have barely first world physical infrastructure, but our governmental admin systems are beginning to be more third world like. Thanks, conseratives "liberarians" you are suceeding.
I don't know if there is some meme going around recently but I've seen several people arguing for opening up now saying again annual flu deaths are higher than COVID-19 deaths. This is flat out untrue but am just wondering why it is making it's appearance again today.
Not if you realize the 85k and counting is fake. The thing here is that the coronavirus doesn't response to bs. However, if you take it lightly, it will get worse. So, unlike previous bs, this level of bs pushed by the extreme right will harm not just the country, the economy, the people but them also.
Interesting read on how the ppl of HK handled this crisis. https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2020/05/how-hong-kong-beating-coronavirus/611524/ With the government flailing, the city’s citizens decided to organize their own coronavirus response.
The actions of your leaders speak for themselves. And actions speak louder than words. People can see what Democrat left establishment types support and are promoting here. You can try to deny it, but the proof is in the proverbial pudding.
