This is the safe distancing and wearing masks practice as we "re-open"...

    Catch them one on one
You can snatch their guns and they would cry like birches.

The ridiculousness of this is sometimes funny... perhaps they can simply, you know, exercise by themselves, at home?

Ventured out yesterday for a haircut and stopped in at Academy and a few other stores, over 50% of people not wearing a mask, kind of shocking that more people are not wearing them. It was very odd at first to wear one and still is but I thought more people would wear them.

I've seen the same. I'm not surprised at all given the way the changing rules are couched as a "re-opening." When you don't know anyone who has died, don't know anyone sick, can't see any viruses floating around, your leaders are telling you it's basically over, and it's only the fake news telling you to wear a mask, of course people are going to let their guard down. Abbott has demonstrated with his actions that the social distancing rules he asked everyone to observe were just lip service as far as he was concerned. So many people are going to be too happy to relax.

Had to hit CVS, more crowded than I'd expected (I did choose to go at 5pm) but probably 75% mask coverage. That was cool to see.

As a bonus I picked up a pint of Haagen Dazs vanilla and a coke. Haven't had a coke float in a decade or so, no idea what made it pop into my mind.

Interesting... people more directly impacted by "closures" are more supportive of the same...

As a rule, I'd recommend against trying to snatch guns away from armed crazies.

Which mutated strain of the virus seems to matter, the one that hit the east coast and europe seems awful, the one in the west coast/texas is pretty tame (and this is applying to canada's east vs west coast the same as well), and the one in Singapore/Aus/NZ has done not much of anything.

My home city/area in Australia of 1.4m people has had 440 cases, 4 deaths and has kept everything open except communal dining areas and major events, been ignoring other restrictions like a city full of elon musks, lol

Instead, you get billionaires speaking on behalf of the working people, saying they all want to work. Maybe nobody wants to work in Elon Musk's ****ing factory or Fertitta's shitty restaurants.

This is really interesting, thanks. And I've read about the different strains, but there are a couple of counterpoints.

One is that this virus is really resistant to major mutations. It has what they call genetic proofreading. See:
    https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-020-01315-7

Second is that a well-regarded UC San Francisco researcher has done a survey of the strains active in the SF Bay Area (where I live), and they're basically all tooling around, including the "bad" one from NYC/Europe. It's really confusing!

I think scientists have no clue yet why some outbreaks are awful and others are meh. Glad yours and ours locally, so far, are on the 'meh' side of things.

The wealthy want to keep making money but only if they have no liability for unsafe conditions. If they stop making money, they will stop being wealthy.
