More likely they won't report all cases soon...

Failed to talk my TX octogenarian parents out of getting haircuts at salons already. Thanks, Ted Cruz. They decided to go out to eat too.

Meanwhile, local good news in SF. As we crawl toward “phase 2”, the effective R value is just below 1 in the city. So every case presently infects less than another person on average. (Ref: UCSF townhall epidemiology report yesterday).

still only 30-something dead and that blows my mind in a city this closely packed.

    Sad, but true...

They already tend to include NY & NJ's declining numbers into the national calculation to impart a downward pull to the national numbers. Deceptive...

Look at the national numbers without NY as the stat driver.

    I mean really WTF?

These businesses instructed employees to not follow quarantine guidelines after exposure to a confirmed case at work and required employees with a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis to still report to work,”

This should not be happening in the USA.

Proving tribal allegiance > common sense for a large % of humans.

sadly, in the USA, belief in science has become tribal. ... Hell, belief in the social contract and the enlightenment are starting to be tribal.

I feel worst of all for the young people of this nation. But they’ll adapt as best they can and probably better than I will.

This goes far beyond that, I can kind of see not wanting to wear mask but to make somebody come in to work who you know has the virus is just batshit crazy.

This and all of the protesters carrying rifles is really exposing the ugliness of the Trump years.

I predict a huge rise of militias once Trump leaves.

Actually, the science suggests these people are at very low risk of being impacted by COVID. COVID is a disease of the elderly with severe medical problems. A nursing home epidemic. Almost 60% of COVID deaths are age 85 and up. Tribal allegiance? Stop with your manipulative guilt and shaming people who just want to earn a livelihood.

With the data now out on age and comorbidities of the COVID deaths, it's clear that we should only be locking down a tiny fraction of this country - nursing homes and long term care facilities. That's reacting to science, friend. Not your absurd correlation/hero complex arguments that suggest that lockdown is an effective strategy.

I have relatives in their late 60's with preexisting health conditions who still go out. They've been posting on FB about how they're having dinner parties and eating out at restaurants. My uncle keeps on telling me I should be going out and having fun and playing gigs..

This is what I was talking about in the "Heavy Price of Freedom" thread. People especially people who call themselves "Conservatives" don't understand what freedom means. They think it is about what they can do ignoring that a private business like Subway also has a right to decide whether people can can bring firearms into their store or what dress code they want to enforce.
