We can't even mass produce our own medical gear or generic drugs anymore.

The fact that Trump and those in the white house are getting tested daily should be offensive to all Americans.

I hope he gets it. Sincerely.

They are royalty... they deserve to have testing, we don't. Or... "let them eat cake-infected with virus..."

I keep thinking of the pigs in "Animal Farm" as they take control and manipulate the masses. Who knew that an allegory about communism could also effectively describe a capitalistic s**tstorm?

Some animals are more equal than others, indeed.

In the early days of the pandemic, the U.S. government turned down an offer to manufacture millions of N95 masks in America

    Washington Post
    By Aaron C. Davis
    May 9, 2020 at 12:06 p.m. EDT

It was Jan. 22, a day after the first case of covid-19 was detected in the United States, and orders were pouring into Michael Bowen’s company outside Fort Worth, some from as far away as Hong Kong.

Bowen’s medical supply company, Prestige Ameritech, could ramp up production to make an additional 1.7 million N95 masks a week. He viewed the shrinking domestic production of medical masks as a national security issue, though, and he wanted to give the federal government first dibs.

“We still have four like-new N95 manufacturing lines,” Bowen wrote that day in an email to top administrators in the Department of Health and Human Services. “Reactivating these machines would be very difficult and very expensive but could be achieved in a dire situation.”

But communications over several days with senior agency officials — including Robert Kadlec, the assistant secretary for preparedness and emergency response — left Bowen with the clear impression that there was little immediate interest in his offer.

“I don’t believe we as an government are anywhere near answering those questions for you yet,” Laura Wolf, director of the agency’s Division of Critical Infrastructure Protection, responded that same day.

    Bowen persisted.

“We are the last major domestic mask company,” he wrote on Jan. 23. “My phones are ringing now, so I don’t ‘need’ government business. I’m just letting you know that I can help you preserve our infrastructure if things ever get really bad. I’m a patriot first, businessman second.”

In the end, the government did not take Bowen up on his offer. Even today, production lines that could be making more than 7 million masks a month sit dormant.

Here's something Trump doesn't talk about.

    Coronavirus deaths per million:

New York 1,375 (First case March 4th)
New Jersey 1,026 (First case March 4th)
Connecticut 806 (First case March 8th)
Massachusetts 682 (First case February 1st)
Spain 566 (First case January 31st)
Italy 503 (First case January 31st)
Louisiana 488 (First case March 9th)

The severity of the situation in Italy and Spain was a warning. We had time to take precautions to ensure we wouldn't do a worse job in handling the situation. We now have two states with twice as many deaths per capita, with others surpassing and nearly reaching their numbers.

He is still boasting about what a great job he is doing. He is still b****ing about Governors crying for help. He is patting those on the back who oppose lockdowns, and begin easing restrictions.

    WOW!

I know this is not a one off and this needs to be a daily talking point once the election starts kicking off for real come August.

I agree!!! The level of denial and ignorance by our leaders in their failure to prepare and act quickly can not be refuted or denied. They should have done more. Right now they should be doing more. Too many Americans are dying.

Dude he is president of the United States even if he did not know it shows he does not have the proper people in place and heads should roll.

How the hell do you know Fauci has anything to do with procurement, why would he?

You facade is slipping and your going full on Trump apologist O's.

    Oh, it gets better

U.S. companies continued their massive sell-off of medical masks overseas throughout March, well after the coronavirus began infecting Americans and draining hospitals of critical supplies and even as White House officials raised red flags, a USA TODAY investigation found.

America exported more protective masks — including disposable surgical masks and N95 respirator masks — this March than in any other month in the past decade. In all, $83.1 million worth of such products were sent from the United States to the rest of the world, according to an analysis of the latest U.S. Census Bureau trade data for the export category that includes textile-based protective masks.
    ...
The exports came even as top-level White House officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, were being warned that such shipments were hurting the country’s own supply, according to an 89-page whistleblower complaint released Tuesday from ousted U.S. Health and Human Services division director Dr. Rick Bright.
    ...
Despite those warnings, President Donald Trump did not move to ban exports of N95 masks and other personal protective equipment until April 3, seven weeks later. He partially reversed that policy days later after backlash from other countries, in particular Canada.

    It gets even better

The Trump administration is pushing to return to "temperature checks" at airports to help people feel safe to travel, even though the CDC is telling them this has no value and is a waste of precious resources:

As American goes past 80,000 deaths caused by Coronavirus... trump touts his own response and polling. Of course, everything trump says is a lie. trump's response was slow, hapzard, ineffective (eg 40k people from China entered the U.S. after and despite his "ban").

As 80,000 Americans dies under his watch, the economy dipped into a deep recession, and unemployment climbs well into double digit, trump finds the time to tweet an ad for one of his golf courses. Priorities...
