Since barr has been a proven liar running interference for trump (what trump calls "his roy cohn"), anything and everything barr says his suspect...
trump cult members are either really gullible or just really dumb...or perhaps a combination of both. the stories/lie continually change and they just go along with it...every single time. just like how a couple weeks ago when trump suggested we inject disinfectants. that day they were saying that he did not suggest that. then the next morning they said that it was the fake news making it up. then by the afternoon the story was that he was being sarcastic. you trump suck-ups are the worst.
With Biden I think you're right. I expect he'll decide it's too divisive to go after Trump and he'll want to move forward to set his own legacy. I think there might have been more of a prosecution if Sanders or especially Warren had won out. Of course, if the Senate flips that might be another avenue.
Interesting how this statement from Barr has been ignored by the usual people here who grasp with both hands every possible chance to pretend that the actions of trump and his tools of corruption didn't happen, aren't happening, if they did happen, it was legal, and if it did happen and was illegal, well, that was because they (those acting for trump) "had no choice." Toss in that the FBI, according to them, is corrupt and have been conspiring against trump and those acting for him, so don't believe anything they say or attempt to do in an effort to follow the law - unless somehow, in their minds, it "vindicates" trump and/or his minions. Be sure, from their bizarre perspective, to toss in the same thing about the CIA and the rest of our numerous intelligence agencies and apply that entire "logic" to them, as well. While you're at it, and again from the rabid trump supporters, be sure include our judicial system as enemies of trump, corrupt, according to them, if they rule against trump and/or his surrogates, unless they don't, when they suddenly turn from being evil and another part of the mythical "Deep Sate" they are so enamored with and such a critical part of their grand conspiracies, to a shining light exposing all those conspiracies they see in every corner, plotting to "overthrow" trump. After all, trump said he "didn't do it," whatever "it" is, or that it "didn't happen," and if it did, it was "legal." Why? Because trump said so. Because Barr said so, because Flynn said so, except when he said the opposite multiple times while pleading guilty. So many others could be added to that list of those willing to lie for trump, and trump himself? Lying, for him, is akin to breathing. Be sure to add all the sycophants trump added to his administration who will do anything he says because he fired a very, very long list of of people who tried to do everything he asked, in most cases, but somehow angered him. Often with a meaningless comment or an expression that trump interpreted as casting him in a negative light, trump being bathed in a constant cloud of paranoia. A cloud of paranoia that trump's supporters live in themselves, gladly sharing the same poison, gladly seeing a conspiracy in every dark corner.
Per my earlier point, I just respectfully disagree with that. The Democratic party that Biden has to manage won't be the same party he was part of when he could be best buds with Lindsay Graham. Adam Schiff will have a big hand in Justice Department reforms if I had to guess. I think you'll see Elizabeth Warren being the most influential Senator or cabinet member on what happens with cleaning up cronie capitalism on her end with whatever role she has which will be pretty much whatever role she wants. The justice department will be pit like pit bulls in the next administration, and there's not much Biden can do about that. Biden's not going to mean tweet Adam Schiff like Trump would. You are right though that much of the power for reform will reside with what happens with the Senate though. If McConnell still controls the Senate even if RBG retires, I wouldn't put it past him to hold out the SCOTUS seat for 4 or 8 years. That's how brutally partisan he is. Winning the presidency is the most important thing, but winning the Senate back is a very very close second. Not much happens other than overturning the AG. Even then that AG will be hamstrung by the power of the right wing judiciary who will fight the justice department tooth and nail.
I understand why you don't trust him although I'm not sure you can factually prove Barr wrong or that he's doing anything illegal. I also think it's very fair to say that anything Comey, McCabe, Sztrok and Page touched is suspect. Why isn't the same level of outrage directed at the FBI team, that's been proven to be corrupt or COMPLETELY inept? I can only assume it's because some of you are ok with fudging some documents as long as it furthers a political agenda that you agree with. There were probably folks that were OK with J. Edgar Hoover's antics. A friend of mine's daughter is an FBI agent. He said her view on it is that she's upset that these actions have painted a bad light on the FBI. But in her world, things are done on the up and up. A few bad apples.
No. That isn’t the standard. I laid out the standard and it was even articulated by the DOJ until Barr decided to intercede and remove the prosecutor who was doing his job properly. Further, the administration has redacted large parts of the testimony of Sally Yates. You can rely on confirmation bias If you choose, but as someone that does this for a living I can tell you that what Barr is doing is neither normal, nor consistent with long standing precedent. As one moderately conservative colleague of mine asked me yesterday, “What the hell? How audacious”.
That wasn't what the 20 year veteran US Attorney for Missouri found in his independent review of the case (which Barr and the US Attorney for DC concurred with) Just started reading Sidney Powell's (Flynn's attorney) new book. The first page alone is terrifying. It is insane to me that FBI interviews are not recorded. All you get are written notes from the agents which they turn into a report. And those notes are considered gospel truth that can be used as evidence in a false statement criminal charge. Madness. Never under any circumstances talk to the FBI
Again with this clueless nonsense. Record of the conversation is irrelevant, it was a plea deal. He admitted to it to avoid other charges. If the they didn't have a record of the conversation, it would not be evidence, and he would not have been found guilty in court. The evidence is the signed confession.
At this point I think it's common knowledge outside of die hard Trump supports like @Commodore that Trump & Co is the most corrupt administration in this nation's history. Barr will go down as the worst AG in history as well. At this point, our democracy is wreaked. I am not sure it will ever recover fully.
America is becoming a WIN AT ALL COST society Winners right the rules Trumpd group wants to be defined as winners. . . even if it means they lose everything This is the people cheering from the sidelines who pay 1000$s of dollars . . for tickets and gear and at the end .. . have nothing to show for it . .. . except to say . . i supported a team that did something great The Motto is: WIN! If you cannot win . .. change the rules IS you still cannot win . . . cheat If you still cannot win . . . change the meaning of what it means to win Rocket River
But they (defense) didn't actually have the 302's did they? And if they had them, then why was it changed and why is there no documented account of the 'lie'? The attorney, Powell's account is that Flynn was told he made a mistake about the conversation and he took them for their word that he mistakenly lied. All that being said. I believe he probably did slip up and lie or wasn't forthcoming about the whole conversation with the Russian ambassador. But the FBI listened in the call and knew the details of the call much better than Flynn at the time he was questioned. He should've had counsel present. This 'lie' he plead to isn't some egregious thing that foiled the counter terrorism investigation. In fact it had nothing to do with it because he'd already been cleared of collusion by the very same FBI. They got him to slip up and was able to force him out of the position that would have had oversight over the very same investigation. How convenient is that?? That's probably the most important take-away from this thing. "What is the goal"....handwritten. Is it OK to set up the incoming NSA so that he doesn't discover the effort to keep an illegally renewed surveillance investigation to continue? So if you're upset about Flynn's lie. I'm assuming you're upset about McCabe's lie too. And what about Comey's 'lack of candor' found by the IG? Why aren't these people being treated the same as Flynn? Both of those cases are indisputable. Is it because the DOJ is NOW not prosecuting the people for political gain? Maybe they've learned from the past and are moving in a respectable direction, contrary to what you guys say. Or maybe that's what Durham is gonna drop end up doing. At that point, it becomes tit for tat, and I'd just assume move on and root out the political influences in the agencies that are supposed to be neutral.
How is it you do not understand any of this? This isn't about the lie, the lie was never the issue, or anything he would have been charged with had he not cooperated. The "lie" was a lesser charge he agreed to plead guilty too, to receive some punishment for all of his potential crimes he would not be charged for. Any evidence in or around the actual crime of lying is irrelevant, because he confessed to it.
Reminded me again of the cooperation deal that the central park 5 had in place, what lesser sentence they agreed to take, and then subsequently backed out of?
The rest of that quote was cut off. Barr said history is written by winners, fairly or unfairly, but a fair writing of history would be favorable to his actions. See the last part here:
It's even worse in this case. Strozk, Page, and McCabe all had a hand in rewriting the original Flynn 302 (which was done by the second agent who interviewed Flynn with Strozk, Joe Pientka), months after the interview took place. It's shady af. I think eventually we are going to see the multiple drafts of the Flynn 302 released to the public, and the only reason we haven't yet is Durham is looking at them for a potential charge of obstructing justice/manipulating evidence. https://www.realclearinvestigations..._from_fbis_handling_of_flynn_case_123520.html
