That's awful to hear. I hope it goes well for him and he has a quick recovery.

That's what I have to keep telling others.

I've actually been wearing a mask when biking and I love it. I feel like I am not sucking up dust or flies when breathing. Allergies get to me and I've noticed a small change at least.

Feels like we've reached the point where people are accepting 2k deaths per day as normal and not a big deal.

I'd be surprised if these numbers don't increase as "reopening" continues.

PS - I have no solutions. I'm just saying. Weird times in which we live.

If that makes them wear a mask when they go out, let them be

That's the dumbest comparison I've seen in a long time.

Its sad that GROWN ASS "ADULTS" have to be explained why a mask is essential to protecting the masses, like little school children, even with all the 24 hour coverage on every news channel. Its funny/sad to see the light bulb go off in their head when you explain and they finally realise why masks are important.

What a great success story according to Kush and Trump. They are blatant liars.

Wearing a mask would concede that this is bigger than the flu.

Conservatives are a lost cause; they're selfish and exhibit behaviors of a sociopath.

My antibody test came back negative. Bronchitis had me coughing up a lung, I don't want Covid.

Thats part of it, but not a large part imo. Those covidiots in Michigan and California have a special place in hell, if there is one.

I really do believe that people are more concerned with how they look and think that masks will make them look stupid than theyre concerned with health issues.

It's how this world is, you have your worried period at first, but as long as it isn't happening to you, people become desensitized and careless and this is what you get.

I'm over people doing that **** so I am just doing what I can to protect others and myself. Not sure how long to keep this going because any arbitrary deadline I set for myself doesn't really matter. Reality is that until we get a vaccine and some medicine that can produce consistent positive results of fighting this virus, I'm a sitting duck if I go back to acting "normal".

Everyone and their mother was fishing this weekend. My friends in Galveston said it was insane on the island too. People have gotten bored and given up on distancing. The next few months are going to be insane.

This is why we can't have nice things.

That's that's not a good comparison. It's about respecting the people and community around you. Allowing people to go back to their old habits so quickly is reckless and just selfish. It's also ultimately very dangerous to the elders in our society. There is a middle ground that people seem to not want to work towards. From my point of view we could reopen fully if we had a responsible population but these stupid pissing contests clearly show we don't.

Saw pretty good compliance in Pearland this weekend. Ventured out to Home Depot and Costco and 95% of the shoppers were masked up. Hopefully the humidity was not allowing the virus to spread far at the beach but it did seem windy at my house.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/04/...action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

This has been making the rounds today and for me I just don't see it. They kind of don't even make any sense. Maybe I'm wrong, but the NY, NJ, CT positive percentage and total positives have declined significantly. The have accounted for about 51% of the deaths so far. It's probably best to look at NY, NJ, CT plus Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. Those 5 states are 61% of all deaths and just over 50% of the total cases. Mortality rates have also been much lower outside of that area. Mortality rate in the NY, NJ, CT area plus Mass and Penn is 7% versus 4.5% everywhere else. (edit because I realized I didn't know exactly what Tri-state area meant lol)

Penn, Illinois, Mass, and Michigan still have some work to do to get deaths down. We have to remember this virus has largely been regional. 70% of the deaths have been in the northeast and 80% if you include Michigan, Illinois, and Ohio.

This virus is going to maintain a slow burn for awhile, but death rates should start to decline slightly this week if I'm seeing it correctly. Tuesday will be interesting to see since that's the day we usually get caught up from the weekend for death counts.

CDC projecting 3k/day in 4 weeks. I'm not sure what the number has to be for people to come to grips with our new reality.
