But heck, they were simply "guidelines" so you can't expect every... er, any state to follow those. If states can't follow clear guidelines set forth from the federal government, why would individual American's follow guidelines?
LOL They just happened to have it when they died? Was that same reasoning used by people during the AIDS crisis? "They didn't die from AIDS, they died from sepsis, they just happened to have AIDS." I don't disagree with your point about flattening the curve and starting to open up again, but the idea that 50,000 people haven't died from COVID19 in the USA is a real stretch. By the beginning of 2021 we very likely will have over 100,000 dead or more from COVID19. That isn't the plague but it is a lot of death for an 8-9 month period of time.
What's funny is that more reports are now saying that the death count is being underreported...that it's only counting the deaths that occurred because of COVID-19, not any of the ones that may have been because COVID-19 aggravated another condition and the person died because of that instead. Most hospitals are still counting heart attacks as heart attacks and pnemonia deaths as just that so they aren't being included in the 50,000+ total that everyone is going by now. Hell, just read a report saying that most coroners are afraid to do autopsies on folks that have the potential to have COVID-19 because the virus doesn't leave the body if the person dies. Report said that trying to do a test on these patients may end up causing COVID-19 to be dispersed into the air and potentially infect the coroner. Means that many coroners, to avoid risk, are just declaring whatever the doctor declared and moving on. These experts believe that death totals from COVID-19 can be anywhere between 10% and 300% of what the current total is. Unfortunately, we won't know the true count until probably 2 years from now when a true study can be done.
son-in-law-n-chief boils it all down into us versus them... and the "them" is "the eternal lockdown crowd"... Jared Kushner mocks the 'eternal-lockdown crowd,' says he hopes the US will be 'really rocking again' by July Jared Kushner made a forceful case for the administration's coronavirus response in a Fox News appearance on Wednesday morning, calling it "a great success story." "I always find that we see the leading indicators, and often the media sees the lagging indicators," Kushner said. "But ... I'm very confident that we have all the testing we need to start opening the country [under the administration's guidelines]." "I think you'll see by June a lot of the country should be back to normal and the hope is that by July the country's really rocking again," Kushner said, despite medical experts repeated warnings of returning to "normal" before testing, tracing, and ultimately a vaccine are widely available. He also decried "the eternal lockdown crowd" making "jokes on late-night television" about the administration, reiterating that his focus is getting Americans back to work. Kushner's public appearances have been sparse through most of Trump's first term, but he has taken a leading role in the coronavirus response, the latest addition to his vast policy portfolio. https://www.businessinsider.com/jar...cess-story-rocking-july-reopen-economy-2020-4
Elon Musk has consistently been wrong on the COVID19 virus. He tweeted the virus would be completely gone by April. He also tweeted support for factually inaccurate information concerning treatment options. There is also a strong financial component as he is likely to receive a 700 million dollar bonus if he can reach several benchmarks that are easily obtainable if California opens up quicker. He is an engineer and not a doctor or biologist. He also has fluctuated as well, as he claims he wants the country to open up "with sufficient and proper safeguards"...... everyone wants that. Either way the country will be largely opened up in the next 30 days unless we see a massive spike in places like Texas or Georgia or Oklahoma. Places like Illinois should remain closed as they have not even reached their peak yet and states like New York and California should also err on the side of caution. For the most part the issue is making sure there are sufficient supplies to ensure that reasonable precautions are taken.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...stay-and-likely-seasonal-say-china-scientists Prelim report on other coronaviruses not optimistic. Then again, the first SARS died down...fingers crossed? https://www.technologyreview.com/20...le-immune-to-covid-19/?itm_source=parsely-api If this **** is seasonal, we'll have to readjust our current modes of operating.
I love to see the pro-life crowd push for sending people back to work in a way that may lead to more deaths. Sure Billy Joe can go work down at the bar again and he shouldn't feel bad about bringing the Rona home to Granny since she's old and has underlying health conditions. Surely Granny has enough in savings stuffed in her mattress or buried in moonshine jars out back for an extended hospital stay... or should Billy Joe just take her out back and shoot her since she's old and may be sick anyway?
Thing is...I don't get how this won't turn into blowback from elderly voters. Does conservative media think that group are ratings vegetables with consistent harvests by feeding them nothing but rage and fear filled stories? You can't even pin the lockdown on the Democrats when they couldn't impeach the bafoon in chief. There's something off with this. Almost as stinky as the stock market
I posted this in another thread, but all they care about is winning reelection. When you look at it from that lens, this makes perfect sense...they were going to lose the election if they kept things shut down (economy tanks) or if they open up and lots more people die (people horrified). Might as well swing for the fences, hope that things work out, and you get reelected and spend 4 more years skimming off the top. They don't really care about people dying...it ain't them; all that matters is winning. That really has to be the only driving force behind all of this. If it wasn't a reelection year, this would be handled much differently.
It's like they're banking on people like the elderly forgetting.... ...oh ****. BTW, your explanation sounds exactly like market sentiment right now. Greedy people keep barking until the Fed helicopters more e-money that has to be paid off in the future.
The dam of social distance and lock downs was already leaking badly and is pretty much breaking. This is what I meant by even though the protesters are a minority there are too many politicians that either sympathize with them along with politicians that are feckless. Also I will admit the protesters have a point that there is lot of economic and social pain behind the lockdowns. We need to prepare for that much of this country is going to be opened back up before we have a decent understanding of how truly widespread or even the mortality of it. To be blunt the scattershot approach of some states clamping down and other states doing next to nothing has already meant the strategy was already severely compromised. While certain municipalities and as individuals we might still practice social distancing and other techniques with largely free movement those are of limited effectiveness. We need to prepare for possibly multiply waves of reinfections and hospitalizations. The focus needs to continue to be on getting testing so we can get a handle and continuing to equip medical facilities to deal with this over the long term.
Most of the dead had pre-existing conditions. There are some exceptions, but the vast majority had significant pre-existing conditions. It can't be proven that covid was the "straw that broke their back".
Since apparently we're going to be re-opening, I'd have preferred it if we had described it as "settling into a more sustainable posture." Because I understand that a draconian lockdown is economically so painful that maybe we're willing to trade some people's lives for more normalcy. But, "re-opening" is putting people into a mindset that we're going to march back to a full normal life. We don't need to go that far. So I'd rather say we're just recalibrating our Stay Home to be a bit more liberal. Then you have a place to stop. Saw an opinion piece on him that called him the world's dumbest smart guy.
EDIT: What does this mean? That cases have to drop for 14 days? Or new cases today need to be less than 14 days ago? Or something else?
