Sunlight won't kill coronavirus effectively because the atmosphere filters out the type of ultraviolet light that kills viruses (along with your own cells). That said, I do think people should be allowed to go to the beach if they practice social distancing. In a wide open space with a seabreeze I would think transmission would be very low. People should be able to have some freedoms and the beach is one of them. But there should not be any type of congregating and space should be maintained.
Yes. I've been talking to family there and the news. What's happened is that the infections have exploded among foreign workers who are housed in dense dorm housing. After initially controlling it they also got a second wave of new infections from people returning. Even though Singapore has over 13K infections there have only be 12 deaths. While they haven't been able to stop infections they've done a great job treating. On a side note I was talking to my dad in Hong Kong this morning and Hong Kong only has 1,038 cases with 4 deaths. That's amazing considering that it is part of the PRC, is very dense and a global transit hub. HK has about 2 million more people than Singapore.
I agree that people should get outside and besides just Vitamin D exposure to sunlight provides many health benefits including mental health. The problem is as we see with pics of beaches opening in FL and CA is that once the beach is open most people don't bother with social distance.
but Im still not travelling anywhere right now until this is over. not sure why you think I'm not serious
I took it from the "LOL". I'm not traveling anywhere either. I was watching a documentary on Sequoia National Park today to try to scratch my traveler's itch.
Yeah, that's the problem. I mean if they put parking cones along the beach distanced apart, for one car each, people could lounge, walk up to the water and swim, while keeping far enough from others to avoid any risk. I am all for that, and would love to go lounge at the beach. There will be probably too many, just like in California who will crowd up, disregard the safety precautions, and ruin it for everyone though. It would be great if they could give it a trial, and if people actually made it work. I just don't think it's realistic though unfortunately.
Well, the beach patrol can earn it's paycheck by issuing some tickets. We need to have the economy find a way to start functioning very soon. It's a shame we have not used this time to implement broad based testing and getting the hospital system in order. The point of the lockdown was never to stop the virus but rather slow it down to make it more manageable.
Why are people confusing South Beach with any normal beach. There is a big difference between bringing your family and friends out for an afternoon on the beach vs getting sloshed and having a party with thousands of other people. Why do Americans lack so much common sense.
Can New Zealand and Australia Eliminate All Coronavirus Infections? Damnit. You can get to New Zealand on a plane for 14 hours out of LA. Or weeks on a ship. New Zealand probably would have the good sense to not allow disembarkation in either case.
It would be nice but currently New Zealand is still under a travel restriction and they aren't letting anyone in. Given that Singapore a country with a lot of ties to New Zealand, had a second wave of infections due to travelers and Singaporeans returning from abroad might make New Zealand hesitate before they allow people to come there.
if ever they do I believe they will do it correctly like force everyone arriving to quarantine for at least 14 days

I'm surprised about Hong Kong. As you say, very densely packed....nuts to butts across Kowloon, the New Territories, all of it. You'd think they'd have a New York City type problem. I'm glad they don't, if just to know of a relative success story. Singapore.....I've been watching a lot of travel videos on YouTube (I guess since I can't travel myself right now). A young couple named Kara and Nate have been traveling several years all over the world and were going to hole up in Singapore because, at the time, it was relatively safe. Looks like that's changed. But there aren't many places outside of Antarctica where you can go and avoid the virus.
