NZ laying the wood, safely relaxing their quarantine rules today as they are only getting about 5 new cases a day (which included probable cases)

    USA a joke as usual.

When this first started to become a big deal, I told my significant other that we should buy a freezer, put it in the garage, and slowly fill it with essentials. She said, "Are you crazy!" She says that pretty often to me, so I wasn't offended. ;-)

We have a freezer in our fridge, of course, but not nearly large enough to put in it what I'd like to. Anyway, I was outvoted. I still think it's a good idea. That, and a generator for significant power outages to keep the stuff in the freezer frozen. I thought that was reasonable, but I live in a democracy. Two females ganging up on one guy. She says our dog gets half a vote, and she (the dog) told her (the SO) that she could have her vote. I think it's a conspiracy. Who does the beast go to when she's out of water, or her food bowl is empty? Who does she seek out if she has to go outside to "do her business?" Me. It just isn't fair.
Thanks, @Mango! I figured BP would be really difficult to get from your finger. Perhaps someday in the future. Temperature, however, seems to me to be a logical add-on to the oximeter. While getting a temp from an ear, mouth, or the other common part of your body might be ideal, surely a finger might at least give you a ballpark reading. As we like to say here, however - maybe, maybe no. ;-)

It’s almost as if they were an island nation of only 5,000,000 people that don’t live on top of each other.

Who would like to lay some facts down on me why the supposed best country in the world is that far down on the list. Why haven't that got any money to people that are working in stores etc?

The US actually has a fairly low population density it's self. We'd have to go further into the numbers of those living in rural areas vs cities. Auckland alone houses 1.5 million people. Theoretically, the USA not being an island nation means little when Canada and Mexico haven't been major hotspots as of yet.

But yes NZ being an island nation on the other side of the world does help a bit, although they aren't Antarctica by any means, Australia and NZ are major travel destinations. Iceland and Ireland didn't get so lucky being low-density island nations, but proximity to Europe probably played a significant factor.

That being said I have followed NZ's efforts against Covid pretty closely and they have done an excellent job. The shutdown the entire country the second they got their first community spread case, have tracked every single case very closely in efforts to eliminate all spread.

If you removed New York City metro area, the US numbers would be basically like New Zealand.

Either our numerator is too small or our denominator is too big or both. Now your next goal is to determine which is true and whether you believe everyone else's numbers on top of that.

Not even close. Our least effected states like Hawaii, Wyoming, Alaska, and Montana are still considerably worse per capita.

On a per capita basis without NYC, the US has 8.5 times more cases and 34.6 times more deaths.
