Good for those people. Studies show that the virus is killed by sunlight and the risk of outdoor transmission is low. The risk is not worth taking away their freedom in this instance. And that should be the standard -- only in places where there is a CLEAR risk of virus transmission should people's rights be taken away. Always err on the side of preserving rights, unless it is clear. In the case of a beach, it is clear in the other direction - it's a tiny health risk. Furthermore, following the data, these people are far safer than people inside buses, subways, and grocery stores.
Its specific UV lights like the ones that hospitals use or like the ones you use to clean your phone. Not necessarily “sunlight”... so I think there’s some education that folks need before they get a false sense of security. Also Vitamin D is good for your immune system so I would agree that there are some benefits to being at the beach as long as you are responsible. The real challenge is if you go to a beach with the intention of social distancing and you get there to find that it’s packed and you don’t want your kid to melt down when you tell them it’s too crowded. Authorities just need to babysit the situation better imo. You can do beach fun in a safer way. I don’t think crowd management would be “taking away your freedoms”.
"Crowd management" is very different than what is being foisted upon the people of most states now, which is an unconstitutional "stay at home order".

Scene from a SoCal beach yesterday, and 600 new Cali cases reported yesterday. People are getting really sick of the quarantine. (Image from LA Times.)
I see only one mask in the whole picture. If these damn idiots make me have to extend my quarantine, I'm going to be so pissed.
The US as a world leader has been in decline in the last few years. We've heard both our President and the leaders of other countries saying the US isn't going to lead and it's up to other countries to handle things like global security. I think this crisis might really end the idea of the rest of the World looking to the US for guidance.
Not sure if serious but I owe a visit to family in Singapore. My family owns some property in Indonesia near Singapore and on normal trips would stop there. Also back in January I was thinking about going to Ireland and Scotland in June or July.
I don't know about Pakistan but I wouldn't trust Indonesia. Malaysia and Singapore have much smaller populations but neighboring countries have much higher infection rates and those countries are much more developed than Indonesia. From what I'm hearing from Singapore is that Indonesia isn't accurately reporting cases because of either lack of ability to do effective testing and data collection or deliberately.
