Can't say I align with many of Governor DeWine's political positions, but admire his stance, speaking out against hatred and telling people that any complaints should be directed to him. That's true leadership... trump should learn from this.
I gotta admit I am getting frustrated and worked up regarding these people protesting. The latest nugget I dealt with today is a claim that the danger is exaggerated because there are hospitals that are empty and medical personnel being furloughed. I pointed out that was because not all hospitals are equipped to handle these cases so regionally certain hospitals are designated as COVID 19 treatment centers. At the same time elective surgeries have been cancelled so many of the non COVID hospitals have little business. Also many medical staff aren't qualified for ICU or to deal specifically with COVID 19 so they aren't working and most of their PPE has been redirected to staff that are treating COVID 19. The response I got was that many deaths are mislabeled as COVID 19 and that hospitals are big businesses so they are making a lot of money off of the virus. So the argument in a few hours has gone from that hospitals are empty and furloughing staff so they are losing money to hospitals are raking it in by mislabeling virus cases. Normally I would let most of this slide but this isn't just someone ranting about Obama being born in Kenya. This has very immediate consequences and lives are at stake. There is a "Gridlock Minnesota" protest planned for next week at the Minnesota State Capital. Near the Capital are Bethesda and St. Joeseph Hospitals which are designated regional COVID 19 treatment centers. Right next to the capital is Regions Hospital which is one of only two tier one trauma hospitals for the Minneapolis - St. Paul metro region.
Overwhelming majority of America to dipshit protesters/brown shirts, go **** yourself https://www.cbsnews.com/news/americ...estrictions-will-lift-too-fast-cbs-news-poll/
I brought this up in another thread that yes these people are a minority but it doesn't take a majority to do a lot of damage. Unfortunately this group carries a lot of sway with many politicians and we're already seeing states like FL and GA open up too soon.
The pro-trump protestors have moved on to Arizona... and more images of health care workers standing up to protestors
What's sad is these people protesting claim they are the ones being bullied and oppressed by doctors, the media, Liberals, etc...
Ok to the people who say the big hospitals are making money. I got an answer for them nationalize the healthcare industry. Make healthcare not for profit.
The strange backlash against doctors... It makes no sense. But if I ever remake a new Warriors movie, I will keep the Baseball furies but might add in the MDs as super tough gang too. Warr-eee-orrrs! Come out, turn your head and cough!
I've got several Trump supporting friends and a couple in my family. There's quite a few Trump supporters / Right Wingers who do Judo and BJJ. A few of these guys post a lot on social media. The standard memes reposted from sites with names like "Angry Patriots". A few will engage in discussion. Generally I ignore most of this but I am very concerned regarding the pressure people like these are placing on politics. As I've said this isn't about yelling that "Obama was born in Kenya" or getting outraged over Colin Kaepernick but there are real consequences. A few of these people have been going to the protests. Interesting enough another Judo instructor who is a Trump supporter posted this past week that he didn't support the protest and wanted people to listen to the medical experts. The replies he got from other Trump supporters weren't pretty. In MN we had another protests today outside the Governor's mansion. This one looked relatively small and there were about 10 counter protesters in scrubs there too. I know that the people protesting the shut downs are a distinct minority but there are too many politicians who either agree with them or are just feckless. Given our recent politics too often the loudest voices win.
Interesting. How long can you actually discuss things before you have to bail or they start foaming at the mouth. It's interesting that there could be a mini civil war within the Trump ranks, I think this whole response to the Corona virus by Trump and his sycophants will be a bridge too far come november. I would like to think a third of his 40% of support will think these things are something they cannot turn a blind eye too anymore. It's also why I wish some of the Trump bashing and the blame gets tempered, so those voters who would probably stay home don't get riled up because they think the libs are piling on. I know its a fine line but let Trump continue to hang himself.
Now for some facts. The virus passing its way through society is unavoidable. Lockdown doesn't stop it, it only slows down the process, and destroys the economy at the same time. Lockdown does not save lives. At all. It just extends the timeline for the return to normalcy. Lockdown was intended to prevent hospitals from overcrowding; that threat is now passed. There is no justifiable reason for lockdown. We know now, through data, that this is primarily a disease of the elderly and those with cardiovascular and respiratory problems. Protect those people, but all others should be free. American citizens should be protesting in force the unjust taking of their civil liberties and in many cases, their livelihoods. This is the largest government power grab perhaps in US history. It must be opposed vigorously. The momentum is now shifting, and we'll reach a tipping point soon that will make those governors who are imprisoning their constituents highly, highly unpopular. LET MY PEOPLE GO
The new line coming out of people pushing for an end to shut downs is that there is a 99% survival rate so draconian measures aren't needed. I agree that more testing is showing that the virus is more widespread than though which means it's not as lethal. That said we still have no idea what the lethality is. 1% is possible but we have no idea. we do know that as of this writing there are more than 56,000 deaths.
