I don't think you realize that 43,000 people have died already, and the virus very well might not be widely spread in the Houston and Dallas communities yet at the scale that it could be. Give me representatives that OVERreact any day over ones that UNDERreact. Folks like yourself whining about "Draconian" measurses like wearing a mask are being remarkably selfish. No.... nobody has to comply with the measures. I doubt Hidalgo expects Cops to be arresting everyone they see without a mask. I have friends that are HPD and First Responders. ALL of them I know are perfectly fine with the stay at home measures. They all have issues with the mayor for different reasons, but not this one. I've never heard any of them b**** about the county judge like you seem to be doing nonstop. Is she overreacting... GOOD. I don't want to see NYC like numbers in Houston. Do you? This is obvious targeting for political purposes since Texas Republicans have ALOT to lose in November. I'm a Houstonian first, and always, and would very much appreciate leadership that OVERreacts right now to keep the city I love well prepared.
I think the strange thing is that Dallas and San Antonio have already issued mask orders...and there was really no pushback at that point in time. Why now? Why Houston?
It's Just Dallas and not the surrounding cities.... So IF and that's a big thing.. IF I go into dallas county I have to make sure I have my mask.... T_Man
Politics. Hidalgo is a target because she's a Dem that won when she wasn't supposed to. The GOP has districts like Dan Crenshaws that are in risk of flipping blue if they don't show Texans that voting blue has dire consequences. Crenshaw won by only 20,000 votes, and is in one of the most gerrymandered districts in the entire nation. His targeting of Hidalgo is very much out of self preservation politically. FYI I live in Tarrant County, and everyone is already wearing masks in a fairly ruby red district. Our Dem candidate in 2018 lost when many of the surrounding districts flipped blue. The outskirts of Fort Worth has a ton of redneck counties that weigh the vote to fairly solid red. However... Nobody really cares here unless someone like Crenshaw makes it sound political, and causes people to freak out. These orders are not seen as "Draconian" until the right goes political. I did have someone deliver via door dash yesterday though that showed up with Trump/dont tread stickers all over his truck, and he got all up in my personal space with no mask on, touched my kid which was weird, and took forever to leave. He was nice (didn't know I was a libtard) but it's proof right there that the politics of this situation is a problem because of hacks like Crenshaw who are putting their political future above public health.
And possibly a show of strength against Abbott and the idiot version of Dan Patrick. Force them to make a statewide declaration that the state gov't will supersede local rule. The timing of it is weird.
It's really not though. We are only months away from the election. The Republican Party cannot afford to lose another judge spot to a Democrat, and they have to save at least 2 Republican House seats, and Cornyn's Senate seat. It's about painting a picture of the results of voting blue in an election. Vote blue in November, and Texas will turn into a Communist Dictatorship. Vote Cornyn and Trump and save Muh Culture. I think they are smart enough to know Texas voters. You'll only have a handful of pure believer Trumpers, but you will have a TON of suburban white voters who watch FoxNews but want to seem not racist, and they make sure everyone knows they like Hamilton & they want a Tesla. They need those voters to think Dems are the devil more than they'll try and promote Trump/Cornyn.
If we had any kind of testing and antibody testing we could all go back to work tomorrow. Do i have it? Umm i dont know? Do you? Well lets just not find out. Makes perfect sense! maybe you are shedding the virus and a simple test might tell you. Oh well Instead we will all sit at he and kill the economy and even when "fully open" no one will know or be able to know if you have it or not since you have to be on deaths door and showing the signs which by then would have taken 5-14 days to come out. So no im not taking the kids to disneyworld this summer and not even the local pool.
Wisconsin Republicans refused to delay an election during the coronavirus pandemic. Now, as those same Republicans are suing state health officials to force an end to a stay-at-home order, the number of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 after voting in person or working at the polls has grown to 19.
Dallas is run, I think, by a Democratic mayor. Once you get to the whiter Fort Worths, Arlingtons, you'd probably get more of the pushback bull****, like, "First you'll make me wear a mask, then you'll TAKE MY GUNS!!!! From my cold dead hands!!! SLIPPERY SLOPE!" People in general are a stupid lot. It really won't be a big deal to wear a mask. This damned virus is going to be around a while.
Take out your stopwatch right now and add at least 2 weeks. Do you realize we haven't met the 1st criteria?! Its called https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/#phase-one " Satisfy Before Proceeding to Phased Comeback SYMPTOMS Downward trajectory of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) reported within a 14-day period AND Downward trajectory of covid-like syndromic cases reported within a 14-day period CASES Downward trajectory of documented cases within a 14-day period OR Downward trajectory of positive tests as a percent of total tests within a 14-day period (flat or increasing volume of tests " We are not in a 14 day downward trajectory! We are at peak or rising. So until we get a few more days then you gotta start your watch today. This isn't democrat talk or lazy mask wearing blues this is white house: https://www.whitehouse.gov/openingamerica/#phase-one Moral of the story: Put your mask on, stfu, stay inside, keep flattening we are 40k dead lets let this be the peak so we can GET to 14 days so we can do friggin phase 1. Cmon
If it's constitutional to mandate people wear clothes in public to cover their junk and to fine and imprison them for failing to do so, I dont see why it is somehow tyrannical or any less constitutional to mandate people cover their mouths for public health. We can argue what exactly is appropriate to mandate, but in broad strokes those are both similar impositions. I wish there were more nuanced arguments against than "Tyranny! Communism!".
