    I've always been a MaxMan, yet I have enough perspective to understand MM' place in Rox history: the roar of the lore. Yao stands tall over any and all #11s here or wherever.

    I love Yao Ming
    and he's a forever Rocket cause he's loyal and of course the owner would never trade him cause he made the owner so much money from China.

    However..

    Vernon Maxwell has the SAME ATTITUDE AS REAL ROCKETS FANS that's why we love him.
    Nobody here can be as NICE GUY as Yao Ming, not even @Clutch.

    @Jontro
    @Reeko

    Vernon spoke like a Rockets fan. Well at least one from the 90s.

    Note the kid in the background "Oh my goodness, my parents never told me about these words"

    Vernon on MJ "b**** *** *****"

    Did Maxwell get the second ring? He quit the team before we won.

    Damn, this is a good thread!

    It all comes down to the players contribution to the organization and how people weight them:

    Yao has a strong case with his consistency, 8 all star appearances, 4 playoff appearances, NBA ambassador, open Chinese market for the franchise that is still strong today! (F#%* You Warriors!)

    Mad Max - NO all star appearances (that is only due to his position), 5 playoff appearances, 2 NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS (and a ton of clutch performances in the playoffs), FAN FAVORITE!

    For me, and it is probably because I am an old man, gotta go Max using the argument for great players. It all comes down to the championships.

    It is definitely close though.

    Mad Max all the way.

    He's 100% always bled h-town red...Yao has always remained 100% behind and bleeds that other Red of the Chinese government..

    Yao has done more for global basketball and Mad Max has done more for Houston Basketball..

    Tabak was with the team when we won the Finals. Maxwell wasn't.

    Pretty sure he got a second ring. The guy was there for 82 games (well, 72 thanks to the fan punch, I suppose)

    I would rather have Sammy, Max, Mario and Bob than Tracy McLady with Yao... :D

    Love Max, but he was a role player. Yao was a centerpiece.

    I think they gave it to him but I think he refused it
    I blame Les Alexander for this because I believe the root cause was not getting a contract extension after 94.

    But int he documentary he said it was a mistake and that he wasn't the type to think first and react later.

    Max quit on the team.

    Yao played with a broken foot against the Lakers.

    Yao.

    If Cassell or Francis not getting retired jerseys then Maxwell not disappointing.

    Those championship teams wasn't about that type of stuff.

    Clyde and Hakeem was more about University of Houston since they never graduate!

    The real mistake Yao made was playing too much basketball and wasting time on that Chinese Olympic team which sucked . That’s non stop and he had all these fools who wouldn’t pass him the ball like Tmac and rafer

    This is of course a very special case. So I don't know how it works. Normally, if you are not part of the team at the end of the season (traded, waived, etc.), you don't get the ring.

    Yao was the better player.

    Maxwell was arguably more important because of the first championship. But he doesn't deserve to have his jersey retired and Yao does.
