No one should take anything Trump says about the PRC and Xi Jinping at face value (no one should take most of what he says at face value). It doesn't matter if you think the PRC is modern Nazi Germany or you think they are great Trump has played both sides of that debate. He will one day talk about how it's all "China's fault" and that "they deceived America!" and then the next day say "He had a great call with Xi" and "Xi is a great leader"

I'm not interested in trolling you, I mention you for two reasons:

    1. You should read what @rocketsjudoka posted because it is factual and contradicts the narrative you are spreading here
2 During the Lin era there were many many annoying posters from China who made the board difficult to enjoy. Seems to me you have a grudge against them and can't let go of the past, which is blinding your views and preventing you from being objective. That is my point.

This was discussed on CBS News this morning, I can't find the link to the story but will post it if I find it.

That the PRC is cranking out a lot of PPE but in the US there is no coordinated effort to source and we have a mishmash of state governments and private groups trying to get PPE.

One other issue is that in the rush to make PPE there are companies in the PRC that were making goods like toys and watches now rushing to make PPE. There is little quality control in this rush and there is a legitimate concern of low quality and defective products that might give a false sense of security.

Why am I not comforted by this?

Gov. Greg Abbott says reopening the Texas economy will be a slow process
He says he'll outline his plans this week, but it won't be a "rush-the-gates, everybody-is-able-to-suddenly-reopen-all-at-once" situation.

You know, whatever governments do, people will find a way. More and more service shops are already finding ways to reopen in SF. All w 6-foot distancing, limited numbers of customers.

not all businesses of course but more open this week than last, and all very carefully.

Sorry, you can't make up dates to fit your narrative. Information, in terms of specifics and testing and spread rate, was clearly suppressed by China until 2020 when it was already out of control. After the Chinese new year, when hundreds of thousands came through wuhan then went on to various locations around the world (Italy being first and heaviest hit because of the sizable Chinese contingent doing business with them and going back and forth). Given the delayed information and the fact that shutting down the economy wasn't something any politcian or country would jump to, regardless of affiliation, it's naive to believe things would happen until the body count started taking off in Italy. Remember, China has suppressed so much information we're supposed to believe only 3,000 died. The facts you are looking for don't exist, so you don't want to deal with academic literature or anything that goes against your preconceived narrative. And why guys like Trump were voted in by lots of partisans and "democrats" who previously voted for Obama.

It really is clear herd mentality over social media has turned those who use it heavily into replicants like yourself. Unable to see facts, data, anything that hasn't been programmed into them. That's something you actually should have control over - but are too far gone to do so.

What dates did I make up?

Facts don't exist? Nothing useful can be done outside of shutting down economy?

Even WH spokesperson is suggesting that things HAVE been done to address the incoming pandemic during those initial months before social distancing was implemented. If there is truth, there are documented facts. If truth is inconvenient to the powers that be, those facts are suppressed - not unlike it's being done in China. Or maybe the sources you are perusing don't like to discuss such facts.

Yes! Yes! Chinese government is horrible. Has been horrible since, at least, the time of the cultural revolution. Its people are indoctrinated. What can I or you do about it and why should we worry about it at the moment when we are in deep sh*t ourselves? I believe it to be reactionary and misguided to talk about foresight and future prevention at the time of a full blown pandemic on your hands. I really don't think it's on top of our priorities at the moment. Although it seems like it makes you feel better to point your energies in that direction. Good for you, I guess. Sorry that I don't agree.

They will likely try to track us with the googleapple tracking services. I'm not particularly looking forward to that. Hope there are viable alternatives. That's why I don't like to compare us to places like S Korea and Singapore. Given that Sweden seems to be doing better than some European countries with enforced social distancing, maybe there is a middle ground where we don't have to give up our privacy. At least they must put some highly protected and enforceable time limit on the practice. Going to be Patriot Act all over again.

    who is doing better? Sweden?
They are doing worse than all of their neighbours and already are number 8 in worst hit countries per 1 million inhabitants while weeks away from their peak.

I was looking at that graph that allaround the world recently posted (from tweeter) and one of the responses on that tweet showed France and Italy having higher mortality per capita. I was referring to that. It could be an evolving stat. I don't know the specifics on when the sweden outbreak started compared to other places in europe. I'll edit this post if I find the source of the graph I'm referring to.

If you see their daily deaths it's surely remarkable.

The virus entered Sweden and became a socialist.
Takes time off every weekend and on public holidays to focus on its hobbies.
Now that it's again a working day time to make up for all the lost time.

I guess you are totally right that due to lack of any possibility of containment, when all is said and done, Sweden will likely have the highest death toll per capita unless Swedes are super responsible people and just keep on doing the social distancing on their own accord until vaccine is available. Which obviously is highly unlikely.

Pretty crazy. The socioeconomic result of that will be morbidly fascinating.

ps. btw i couldn't find the exact tweet anymore. the chart was from https://ourworldindata.org/coronavirus and it will be irrelevant soon anyway

From what I've been hearing is that Sweden might drop their relaxed voluntary strategy and put in stricter measures.
