It is simply against human culture to promote the condition that lead to pandemics every 5 years.

Pretending to be offended in the name of "Asian culture" only makes the matter worse. Chinese culture led to over 100k deaths. Chinese culture led to millions around the world losing their jobs and being set back for the next 2-5 years in the grand scheme of things.

The wet markets have already reopened, and liberal publications are worried that their business isn't as strong as before! Everyday people are going to rebel against voting democrat as a result.

Yeah, those Nordic genes might be hearty for sailing ships but there's a hurdle or two getting in the way of herd immunity

Today felt like the 8th day of a 7 day week.. I can't believe I was riding my bicycle all around the mall with a lot of emptiness and a lot of homemade sign of takeout orders. Each time I ride around Nordstrom, there are 10-15 cars on the parking lot. It feels like a hurricane day. And for some odd reasons, I see more females than males like 3 to 1 on the bike/hike path every time I ride.. Nice to smell fresh air, pollution must be very low.

It's too bad @tinman won't read this, he's an example of an old time that is so scarred by the Jeremey Lin era that he needs to antagonize any Chinese poster on this board.

Where am I acting offended in my post?

Regardless of whether Asia-Pacific communication style leans toward indirectness vs directness, I'm sure all national leaders take huge pride in their respective governments and so I would venture to assume that Xi Ping told Trump something of the sort "the pandemic is not that bad - we have got it covered" and that is as much as the two spoke about it. And that was enough for Trump to say Chinese hid info from him. Which is not how I personally would interpret said statement.

Please prove otherwise - I'll gladly listen. What did American government ask about the virus and what did China say that we can interpret as a lie. Where is the perfect transcript of Trump talking to Xi Ping? Present some facts please.

Viruses come from different places as Bill Maher's video has shown recently. Given the callous way my own government has reacted to the real and present danger of a pandemic by calling it a hoax, I find it a bit rich starting a movement to abolish wild animal trade worldwide here in US. Another country SHOULD probably take charge of that. No clue what the liberal media has to do with any of this.

Meh, I've already posted numerous fact based sources... unfortunately no one wants to read anything against their narrative. The internet has turned them into replicants that past generations were proud to not be - see Apple 1980's ad.

    https://henryjacksonsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Coronavirus-Compensation.pdf

Page 7 to 22 is what you need to read.

17 November 2019 First record – in unpublished, unconfirmed Chinese government documents seen by the South China Morning Post (SCMP) – of a virus infection matching what is later identified as COVID-19 in a 55-year old male from Hubei Province. Eight comparable cases are recorded in November, according to SCMP.

1 December A later report in The Lancet, published by Chinese scientists, states that the first known COVID-19 case is recorded on this date.

8 December A further patient is recorded with what have become recognisable symptoms. A later World Health Organisation (WHO) document reports that the first case of COVID-19 was recorded on this date.

Mid December Between 1 and 5 new cases are now being recorded each day, according to unpublished, unconfirmed Chinese government documents seen by the SCMP.

20 December 60 confirmed cases have been reported by this date, according to unpublished, unconfirmed Chinese government documents seen by the SCMP.

27 December A friend of the now famous deceased COVID-19 ‘whistle-blower’ Dr Li Wenliang later writes that on this date the friend’s own medical department was the first to report the new outbreak to the Wuhan Centre for Disease Control. Another doctor involved in diagnosing cases of the virus on this date later said he had been sure then that the disease would spread from human to human.

Unpublished, unconfirmed Chinese government documents seen by the SCMP report that 181 cases of infection have now been recorded.

30 December Dr Li sends a message to his friends about a SARS-like outbreak. He and these friends were later investigated by police, and Li was obliged to sign a pledge not to spread any more “disruptive rumours”. Medical authorities ban staff from publicising the outbreak, and impede efforts to bring existing research into the virus to completion by delaying approval to circulate necessary data.

Unpublished, unconfirmed Chinese government documents seen by the SCMP report that the total numbers of cases stands at 266.

31 December China reports the outbreak to the WHO. A low-key public notice by Wuhan health authorities describes a new flu outbreak with 27 cases, 7 of them serious, linked to the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market, as yet no clear evidence of human to human transmission, and advises people with persistent fever to seek medical help. The New Year speech of Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, makes no reference to the outbreak.

Xinhua, China’s official state-run news agency, reports that all cases are linked to the Huanan Market in Wuhan and that there is no evidence of human-to-human (HTH) transmission.

    1.5 The Role of China’s Leadership in the Early-stage Cover-up of COVID-19

The standard response by the CCP leadership to a major disaster is to let local government take the initial blame. The picture of activity focused in Wuhan described above fits with this – to a degree. The Wuhan authorities should have been aware of what was happening by late December, when experts reported on internal channels an outbreak of a new viral infection. News of the outbreak was passed to the WHO on 31 December, but nothing was publicised in Wuhan. In the first three weeks of January, as the unacknowledged epidemic began to spread, the Mayor and his team temporised, aware of a dreadful problem but persevering with the annual Provincial Peoples’ Congress meeting and issuing thousands of tickets for holiday entertainments.

Unaware of the danger, hundreds of thousands of travellers flooded into the province for the coming New Year holiday. Meanwhile, at a secure laboratory in Shanghai, the COVID-19 genome was sequenced – in secret – as the daily tally of new cases rapidly increased. This establishment was later forced to close for releasing its data without official clearance. One of the new victims was Dr Li Wenliang.

Details of the spread were withheld from the public, as well as from the WHO. In the first two weeks of January it was even reported officially that the number of new cases had gone down to 41.60 The impression was deliberately created that the measures taken to control the outbreak had worked.61 But, at the same time, a Beijing-based media company reported that one radiologist in Wuhan had personally detected 50 new cases in one day.62 Another source refers to a public warning on 18 January that the virus was passing from person to person.63 That night an annual mass banquet took place in Wuhan’s Baibuting district for 40,000 guests, many of whom were soon in quarantine.64 But this is not the whole story.

In Beijing on 7 January, the CCP’s main theoretical journal, Qiushi (‘Seeking Facts’), began to publish timelines of Xi’s engagement with efforts to contain the outbreak.65 Though this was not mentioned at the time, a transcript of a speech by Xi on 3 February referred to a statement he had made on 7 January, at a meeting of the CCP Politburo standing Committee, when he had “issued requirements for the prevention and control of the new Coronavirus”. On 20 January, Zhong Nanshan, a scientist famous for his expertise on SARS, announced on state television that the COVID-19 virus could be passed from human to human.67 The same day, Xi made his first public statement on the crisis.

According to Xinhua, the state news agency, he stressed “the need for the timely release of information” to the public to ensure social stability for an auspicious and peaceful New Year holiday.68 The two tourists who became Italy’s first COVID-19 cases left China on 22 January, reaching Milan the next day.69 On 25 January, Lunar New Year’s Day, Xi is reported to have chaired a meeting of the seven-man CCP Politburo Standing Committee, the summit of power in China. He later referred to this meeting in his 3 February speech which was published in great detail, most unusually, on 15 February.70 Xi reportedly said that he had given orders on fighting the epidemic at a meeting on 7 January and had personally ordered the imposition of quarantine on Wuhan on 22 January.

It is a group of people. Adoo is my favorite. He clearly writes his posts in some translator that probably documents it so he gets paid and then copy and pastes weird formating issues and doesn't fix them because he is on to his next 50 cent post.

Agree... scratching my head why this seems to not have been considered and done... instead we rely on people creating their own from handkerchiefs and cut-up t-shirts...

One of the most shameful things about the USA is how the old are treated. I have already heard some strongly financially motivated pointing out the money saved by thinning the herd in old folks homes, the homeless and illegal aliens. One person even without shame said it will force blacks to work or die.

cruz did later deleted his tweet, but shows how prevalent rushing out with an "gotcha" that is completely false, just because Whitmer is both critical of trimp's COVID-19 response and a potential VP choice for Biden...

That's absolutely shameful and that type of behavior that will come back and bite. When you choose to treat some of your citizens like this, you are a monster. But it's a monster that might become culturally acceptable and that means... let's rewind all those safety nets that were put in place. And once that happens, guess what, the economy will suffer greater in the next great recession and another great depression is more likely.

Here is the thing that gets me the most. It's a false choice. It's lazy. You can do both the right thing and not just save human life, reduce pain and suffering but also the economy. That choice is to beef up your test, contact tracing and isolation - do it in a uniform strategic way throughout the country. The false choice is to open up without that structure in place and we end up closing down again, causing more volatility, death, economic downturn. This isn't even a new experiment - it's being played out in nations today.

And I firmly believe the US can do this if we have the right leadership in place. We saw how we have changed rapidly in weeks that almost seem impossible. Culturally, wearing mask in public was frowned upon just days ago. Leaders wear them and now people follow. Culturally, locking down was unthinking just weeks ago. San Francisco was one of the lead and other follow suit and 90% of the population adhere to it. I'm pointing this out because some say we don't have the "culture" in us to do what SK or Taiwan is doing. No, we do have it in us - it takes smart leadership to steer the public in that direction.

p.s. I think we will eventually muddle our way unnecessary through this with Cities and States taking the lead (in both opening too fast and doing it just right) and others following. Some State / Cities will mess up and eventually correct their mistakes.

I'm aware of China suppressing info from their own citizens. The facts that I was looking for are related to the initial statement by Trump that the Chinese are doing great at containing the virus and that he had a great conversation with Xi Ping about it and then reversing said position in favor of one where Xi Ping has withheld info from him.

Your timeline doesn't address American inactivity with regards to pandemic until the very last moment. That is the only part I have some direct power and hold my government accountable for. Id like a timeline of what my government had been doing to proactively contain this once they found out about existence of a viral disease (reportedly in Nov). The facts I am looking for don't require 15 pages to sort through and I am sure Fox News would provide them to defend Trump if those facts were available.

On the other hand you prefer to talk about other governments and wet markets - things I have no direct control over. You want to start another Iraq war perhaps because you feel slighted and need to direct your anger somewhere?

This is all Les Alexander’s fault for over doing the China money grab
We lost our identity as the Houston Rockets
We will never be the China Rockets but we can have fans from China and other countries

But when you changed all the ads at Toyota center for China only things like tencent games for your mobile phone and have city jerseys that clearly promote China for year after year
    This happens

when their evil government is following Daryl Morey
That’s a sign you went overboard on the pandering
