I have become a fan of British Crime Dramas and also some Australian ones. 5 star rating. I like the period ones such as Endeavor****, Vienna Blood***, Grantchester ****. Some of the modern ones I like are Unforgotten****, Lewis ***, Luther***, The Shadow Line****, The Tunnel*****. The Australian ones are Doctor Blake mysteries,*** UnderBelly (Highly Recommend)***** and Mrs Fisher Mysteries**, not a great show but a the characters are extremely likable. I am currently watching Scott and Bailey*****, great show with great actors and plots that you can't figure out in the 1st 15 minutes. I really really like this show. I have never seen the 1st Prime Suspect or Life on Mars but I am eager to watch. Anybody else a fan and What other things should I add to my list?
Broadchurch - It has two doctors (three by some standards) and one companion. (It actually has a great cast.)
Yeah I heard great stuff about that but I am currently interested in more episodic stuff and not a lengthy arc. I will eventually check it out because I love a lot of the actors.
I liked Luther but it kind of went off the rails IMO. Have not seen the others but if you look at my original post I have the ones I have watched rated.
Broadchurch was really good. The popular ITV crime drama is primarily filmed in the Jurassic Coast harbour village of West Bay, Dorset. While the backdrop of West Bay – also known as Bridport Harbour - is used due to its spectacular cliffs and scenery, the street scenes in Broadchurch are filmed in Clevedon, Bristol.
I remember enjoying The Take about a decade ago. I don't remember much about the show, but it was the first time I saw Tom Hardy and I was pretty impressed by him with his Brando's intensity. If you like Lewis, you might want to check out Inspector Morse from which it is a spin-off. The way Colin Dexter has set up his characters throughout these two shows, from Morse to Lewis to Hathaway, is quite interesting. It was unfortunate on more than one level that the Morse series had to be ended when the actor John Thaw died from cancer.
Wire In The Blood Foyle's War I never understood the appeal of Broadchurch. The show just cycles through a bunch of red herring suspects until there's only one person left at the end.
I have heared of them and will eventually give them a try. That's kind of what I thought about Broadchurch and its why I have not started it.
Underbelly has some good street level crime but Australian accents. Mr Inbetween is good but it's more of a character study than crime focused.
I agree. I just binged the last season S05 from 2019, which came out several years after the previous, and while it had an interesting villian story, it should have just been that. Instead, they had two plots, and it was all messy. btw: I'd put Sherlock in Crime Drama category for sure.
Endeavour is very, very good, in my opinion. It may take a few episodes to get used to the actor portraying a much younger Morse, but he proves to be an excellent actor. One of our favorite British crime series, along with the original.
