i'm not gaming out scenarios as that presents limitless outcomes. what i'm wondering is what is the point of these drastic moves? if we (the US) aren't going to recognize leaders of other countries why would other countries recognize ours?

The US is in violation of this.

    Nobody cares.

    "International law" is a joke.

It is only enforceable so long as the member nations choose to go along with it.

The point is to influence the actions of countries. Countries routinely make decisions like this.

They do because they get a benefit from doing so. If you had "gamed out scenarios", you'd have seen the reasons why other countries don't just declare Hillary or Obama or Bernie or Romney as our President.

Which one? In this case, Section 1 and 2 conflict with each other. If the US goes in (without permission), they are in violation of #1. If they don't go in, they are in violation of #2.

this is one conclusion among many other possibilities. go along with the US policy or get cut off from the funding. it makes sense but i am of the belief that the days of this type of maneuvering is coming to an end.

"the carrot or the stick" approach is not a sustainable policy for mankind.

i'm not an international law expert but your summation seems incorrect based on the current published information. we (the US) violated #1 by entering the embassy since it was without the consent of the head of the mission. to my knowledge the embassy was not under an intrusion as the people who were arrested had been invited in and were not actively destroying the place meaning #2 was not being violated.

now, if the argument is that maduro and his appointees are not the legitimate leaders of venezuela and can't invite people in then it goes back to the previous question of who gets to say the leader of sovereign nations is. do the people of that country get to decide (via election) or does a foreign power get to choose who is in charge (50 international countries)?

Yes, toppling the Venezuelan government should be our top priority right now. It isn't like we have a pandemic and economic recession that we need to deal with.

A Nazi government is good at doing Nazi stuff: war and kill. Saving lives or economy is not their expertise.
