Just googled through the r&b charts. Some interesting songs added to the mix that I'd never select. I'll spare you Disco Duck, but these were all top 100 on the R&B charts: I guess disco is r&b?
Don't look at any of them as disco and yes all of those I think of as fitting the category. That Leo Sayers song was a banger. That Rod Stewart song is a classic Disco Duck was just bad.
Saw Bobby Caldwell at the Circle Star Theater (a revolving theater in the round) in San Carlos, CA. One hit wonder, seemed very uncomfortable on stage (mostly just sand the songs, the bass player seemed to do all the talking. Boz Scaggs is my first thought when it comes to blued-eye soul. Then Hall and Oats. But this guy transformed his career after success singing for the Doobie Brothers...
That's definitely not Blue Eyed Soul. To many guitars. I do love some Rod Stewart though. he has a hood pass.
I know, I was just trying to keep you guys from listening to more shitty Rod Stewart songs. Faces, and the Jeff Beck Group is where it's at.
There was a band called Soul Track Mind out of Austin that I used to go listen to a lot when they played here locally. The lead singer was white, but they did soul music very, very well. The band isn't still together..but the singer is named Donovan Keith and he tours under his own name now. Give it a listen.
The Jeff Beck Group? Saw them at the Catacombs in Houston in the middle of July, 1968. Talk about blowing you away! One of the best times that I had that year and at a club. Check out who played there for two nights: Jeff Beck - guitar Rod Stewart - vocals Nicky Hopkins - piano Ronnie Wood - bass Mickey Waller - drums
At 1st I was this is nice after the Kazoo, I was like **** yeah the greatest tribute ever. Nice voice would listen to her live.
I can't believe that I missed this thread, haha love all this music, great picks by all, haven't heard this music in forever.
Yeah, haha me too and not to derail thread ... I came across this recently and thought it was pretty cool seeing various artists join in with Hall, not sure how I missed this either... So I'm sure everyone's seen these, but just in case. Actually - this might have been in other thread ohhh well. Just thought it was cool seeing various artists perform with him. Anyway, nice thread !
