October is my ten year anniversary. I want to do a couple decent trips as my anniversary approaches. Problem is (not really a problem) we have a two year old, so I'm trying to come up with some family safe trips.

I've been tossing a few trips around for a week in August. Thinking of flying to Ft Lauderdale and driving through the Keys and staying in Key West. Thought of the Hill Country. My wife has never really been through, as she's not from Texas and we don't live there.

But I've always wanted to go to Iceland. It'd be a little more expensive, but doable. Especially with the way travel is looking right now.

Has anyone been? And is it doable with a toddler? Obviously we wouldn't be able to hike so much and do the things we would if we were solo, but just to explore and see the scenery?

Any other advice on where to go is welcome too. My son likes outdoors and we encourage that.

    Thanks.

A good place to ride out the Coronavirus? Probably.

I don't know about Iceland but cost..
just wait 3-4 months to book it, for the world tourism and plane industry to collapse so you can go to the same place at 1/3 of today's price.

It's not, unfortunately. They have 55 cases currently, 7 from community spread have been identified in the last 2 days. For a country of 365k people this is a high per capita number.

Nowhere is completely safe, some islands in the Caribbean have no cases right now, Hawaii only has 1 case currently, Alaska none currently.

Outside of this, I've never been, but from what I've seen online, Icelands looks like an amazing experience. The average high/low for October is 44/36 degrees, combined with high wind and humidity from the ocean, so it's gonna feel cold! Something to think about with a 2 year old with the majority of activities being outside.

The Iceland trip would be august. Sorry for any confusion. We usually try to do a decent trip every October which is why I've put it off.

As a young couple with a young toddler, I figure the time may be right to take advantage of prices. And the weather would be better.

What kind of delayed education were you receiving, 6th grade? That was urgent information that they spit at us in 3rd or 4th grade.

That's my fault for not reading. I skim post. Yes, August would be a bit more comfortable! Considerably more sunlight hours and a whole 10 degrees warmer than October.

I wonder if the virus gets bad enough, if Iceland might put restrictions on travel from the US by August, but I think they would refund your flights.

Personally I think it’d be tough to do with a toddler. It’s still quite cold in August (though the locals will be in shorts and short sleeves and make the tourists look like total schmucks being all bundled up) but without the trappings of winter wonderland to keep a toddler occupied. Also, no aurora in August (or so we were told, so we didn’t even try). Lastly, it’s hard for me to see a toddler really enjoying their geothermal pools, which was my favorite part of Iceland because it’s so cold.

Plus, everything is super expensive there (not by Texas standards, but by NorCal standards).

The toddler (and by extension, you and the wife) will probably have 10x better time in Hawaii.

It also taught us that if you go against the best Icelandic player in a hockey shootout, he's going triple deek and shooting glove side.
