The Tasmania hotel guy is an interesting case. i'd like to know more about what's going on there. If he's working at a hotel, he's probably an hourly employee who doesn't get paid if he doesn't work. Here in the US, the economics are more certain and I suspect many folks will make that same choice for a day's wage.
This and religious nutjobs who don't believe even in the virus. Unless there is governmental punitive measures there is no way there won't be super spreaders walking around with no regard infecting the risky groups.
According to John Hopkins, there is increasing evidence that the virus may be transmitted by airborne pathways. That presents a whole new level of concern about containing it. In other words, that someone may not have to cough near you, or touch you, or leave droplets with the virus present that you can touch in order for you to get infected. It may be that a person across a room might exhale the virus, that it could remain in the air, and be transmitted not only in the air of the room to other people, but also by being in unfiltered air going to other locations connected to that room. That’s a frightening thought. https://hub.jhu.edu/2020/03/06/covid-19-coronavirus-expert-testimony-to-congress/
Italy - like China fcked up the quarantine. Exactly like Wuhan the news were leaked hours before it was enforced and that meant that thousands of Italians left by car, trains and airplanes from Milano and Lombardy. The trains were so packed people were sitting on each other. Look at this : The Governor of Puglia, Michele Emiliano, has signed an order today, which obliges all inhabitants of Puglia, arriving from Lombardy in the coming hours, to quarantine. ‘’Get off at the first train station, don’t take planes to Bari and Brindisi, go back by car, get off the bus at the next stop,’’ wrote Emiliano on Facebook, addressing Apulians, living in Lombardy. “Do not bring the Lombard, Venetian and Emilian epidemic to your Puglia. You are carrying the virus into the lungs of your brothers and sisters, your grandparents, uncles, cousins and parents.” Things seem pretty bad.
I'm so curious about the real number infected in Wuhan -- I can't find reliable info, but it has to be hundreds of thousands in these packed slums. A significant portion of the population live around or in these terrible conditions.
Imagine being quarantined in that house for 2 months packed with other 8 people in 3 rooms. I would probably consider suicide.
got sucked into reading some legit reporting and opinion reporting both last night. Trumps response to this is, UNQUESTIONABLY AND BAR NONE the worst, most immoral, dumbest action of his presidency. There’s basically been a internal “battle” about how much of the “truth” to tell Americans and of course their push to limit truth means they have to not take a lot of measures that otherwise wound help fight this. From the senior flying thing to what seems to be a purposeful attempt to just say nah, we’re not even going to test it in Seattle it’s just endemic to any number of things. Such a response is basically playing life and death. Absolutely economic impact hurts people to... potential even to the point of death... but you assess the situation, tell Americans the truth, and mitigate the health or economic impacts as best you can. you don’t get to choose who lives and dies which is what they’re doing. it’s so ridiculous it’s hard to even fathom the path they’ve taken. its criminal to me. not any different than those stories of folks that were confirmed positive and told to self quarantine but went out anyway... except worse
The coronavirus was already all over the US for a while. The number of cases in US is about to spike. There’s a guy quarantined off California coast who had it before he even left for his cruise. This is my first day posting about coronavirus since the outbreak. Who cares about stocks, lost revenue, elections, or the economy right now? why are so many flippantly denying the severity of this situation? On one hand, I’m not freaking out. But science is science and facts are facts.
I've been saying this for awhile but containment has already failed. This virus has been out in the World including the US for at least two months now and with the lack of testing we have little understanding of how many people might have it.
"The death toll in the northern Italian region of Lombardy has risen over the past day to 257 from 154, a local official said on Sunday On Saturday, the country-wide tally stood at 233." 100 deaths in one day just in the north.. In a country with a developed health system. ......
The only thing Trump has going for him is the economy, and he's singled in on that issue. Everything he does henceforth is focused on the economy because that's his shot at reelection. He thinks the American people are dumb enough to not see through that. Also, the media is the enemy of the American people, remember? Also, now is the time to jump in and buy some stocks, right?
