The UK government was dealing with BREXIT and yet they have a very detailed plan for all stages of the outbreak. They have made extensive testings and have given instructions to all GPs how to deal with patients. They have even a plan to recruit retired doctors, nurses and medical students. Don't tell me that a Senate trial is more difficult to deal with than Brexit that literally is turning all your trade deals and laws upside down.
Every administration prioritizes, and at the time this was just beginning to emerge in January and to many seemed like it could be a China-centric issue. Thus this may not have been at the top of the list and impeachment may well have been a factor in that.
I gotta admit it's hard keeping up with Covid -19, the number of cases and mortality rates. I've got egg on my face a few times discussing it without the latest info.
This point really throws a wrench in the argument that the administration didn't have time because of a trial. Donald Trump's presidency is notorious for campaigning and recreational time for the President. The dude has by far the most rallies for a president. He was in campaign mode the first month of his presidency. He routinely travels hundreds of miles weekly just to play golf. His public schedule is rife full of "executive time" which with Trump usually means watching Fox News and tweeting.
@rimrocker posted this in the Hangout corona virus thread, and @NewRoxFan posted it here a page or two back. I saw it on the news last night. After seeing @rockets94-95 going off the reservation with a series of posts that have nothing to do with the virus (except in his mind), I thought I would repost it. It might be interesting if he would comment on the two videos of Mr trump at the CDC spouting off one bizarre thing after another, lies sprinkled throughout. This is from yesterday, not from 2 months back. Here you go.
I can accept that the Administration was distracted with impeachment but that shows how disorganized it is and the lack of leadership from the top to be able to deal with several things at once.
Now I'm not sure if this is me just suddenly paying attention to this but is President Trump unique in that whenever he has these mini press briefings, he has multiple people just standing behind him silent? I see this a lot with Trump. I don't recall that with Obama or Bush.
How much time? The President rage tweeted repeatedly he didn't even watch because it wasfake. So...how much time? You shouldn't accept it because it's bullshit. That's been over for over a month, and not only is our response a failure, the Administration is actively making things worse That's literally the one thing that is within their control - be clear and transparent and issue common sense warnings. But they can't even do that. In fact they do the opposite.
It's part of his marketing strategy. One of his frequent verbal riffs is "There are a lot of people" or "A lot of people are saying" he literally wants to show there are a lot of people behind him. It's also the same idea behind having a entourage or in the feudal days a retinue. It's a way of showing power by having a group of people stand or walk behind you.
I think you missed the point of my post. I'm accepting the argument that the Administration was distracted. Which I think they very obviously were. I'm not saying it's a good thing.
Neither of those say anything close to Americans not supporting the Senate trial. And both suggest more people didn't support or approve trump then those that supported or approved. In fact, one of your articles said 51% want a change of presidents. So don't know why you think either support your point or contradict mine.
Why does your president have to be there for CDC to do its job? Would he make the test kits himself? Is this like China where people were sitting on an outbreak on their hands and all the gene results for weeks until they received the ok from president Xi? Test kits were developed by a german company since January and distributed worldwide. The WHO itself is now donating to Iran, 100 thousands. This excuse about the test kits and unprepareness is simply laughable. The virus is a coronavirus it isn't some alien virus coming from outer space that you have to spend 3 months to make test kits for.
making sure this does not get lost. There is no credible justification for this but let’s see if @rockets94-95 will try some BS about how this is media twisting stuff blah blah blah.
You were saying that most Americans were against the impeachment trial. I presented polls saying the majority supported the trials. That most people thought he did something wrong. A very large majority wanted witness introduce in the senate trial. Your polls didn't show anything about the trials. And even his most "favorable" polls still show more people give him unfavorable marks. Even Rasmussen and Fox News say his has less than 50% approve of the job he is doing. Despite "the economy".
I’m not here to defend or react to every word the President says. Whatever he said yesterday he said.
His approval rating rose all of 2%. Margin of error is around 4%. Based on that, it is possible his approval rating actually dropped.
It’s not unusual for trump. The other two didn’t need it. trump needs the audience. He feeds off of it. I think it’s a manifestation of his insecurity. It’s to prop him up. He lies “better” when he’s surrounded by people, in my opinion. In the video’s, his audience, except for the fellow immediately to his left, look like they can hardly believe he’s actually saying these things, but know better than to publicly contradict him. Those who do quickly get fired and/or attacked.
