"See these fingerguns? I'm blaming both these guys. Fired." eta: I'd also like to add...how ridiculous is his tie?
China is posting a 2.3% mortality rate. It's very difficult to measure the total people who have been infected though. The death rate is certainly multiples higher than the flu, but to what extent is unknown. However, when you look at small sample populations such as cruise ships, the mortality rate is disturbing and points to something ominous. Out of 700 people infected on the diamond princess cruise, 6 have died so far. That's in line with a 1% mortality rate. If they can keep looking at small closed populations where they can identify the number infected, you can't establish a mortality rate by adding all these micro groups together and making various cohorts.
I know. And of course he could be right and I hope he is. But him trying to downplay this instead of just stating what's known and using real fact to calm is irresponsible and can backfire (especially among his group of loyalists and supporters who might be lead to think this isn't anything but just the seasonal flu). They need to be focusing on containment while it's still possible. Don't wait till you have an Iran situation on your hand.
I agree and I'm certainly not defending Trump for the sake of defending Trump. This is serious and needs to be taken seriously but we also need to guard against a panic. We're already seeing hoarding and shortages often by people who aren't at risk. We're also seeing ugly racism directed at Asians being fueled by the panic.
Yeap. That's something a POTUS can certainly speak to in order to calm and educate folks. There is a balance and your credibility and gov transparency is absolutely important to maintain that balance. There is panic buying (psychologically logical prep to some extend for an unknown future - the fear of quarantine is driving that). There is ignorance that lead to racism. Two different things. The first is reflective of a lack of confidence in the government handling or ability to control. "We are prepared for all situations" - people think, ok, so if this get bad, and it's inevitable that it will spread and there hasn't been much testing, you are going to isolate all of us? I need to be prepared now. Leave it as unknown and that space will get filled with the worse imagined vision leading to panic buying. Fill it up with a concrete comprehensive plan (that can change) and clearly communicate that with regular factual update and maybe people will more likely calm down. It's a hard balance to maintain.
What's the big deal? Trump wants these people to go to work and thinks it will miraculously disappear and most of his supporters think it's all a Democratic hoax anywhere so why do we care? No, in all seriousness, shame on that...*checks notes*...City Councilwoman? Really? I don't care how dumb she is then that's Denver's problem.
In his defense, I heard that as some people won’t even know they have it and they will sit around or go to work and get better.
He did not said go to work, but he left the possible interpretation. (he's a very poor communicator so nothing new) When I heard it, I knew what he meant - people get it, go to work without knowing about it and recover. Two glaring problems. You will get sick, maybe mild, but you will get something. It best that people that are sick try to isolate themselves and if they show symptoms go get it tested (of course this is extremely hard in our society especially for workers without sick day and/or adequate ins). The second is -- yick, it then spread. Which is again why I think the gov should err on the side of over testing to increase the chance of containing this.
One reason that trump should not be speaking about this beyond expressing his concerns, his support of the experts. He is a poor communicator, and worse, he says and does things that conflict with the things the experts say (eg, saying the less than 1% mortality rate when the experts say 2% and NIH just revised to 3.4%). His lack of credibility only makes things worse.
Obvious joke - seriously. Why do you always attack democrats? I mean, why would a "moderate democrat" come on here and constantly post right wing news and propaganda that is highly critical of dems, but never once criticizes the GOP? So strange!!!!
This shows what a disaster of preparation we had: https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs...onavirus-blasts-cdcs-response-to-her-symptoms The sad thing is that this thing is going to be a huge tragedy for all of us. People who think that the bungling of this only hurts one party or another is so short-sighted. People we all know and care about will die from this - the poor preparation will cost lives and we will be left wondering if our divided system and incompetent leadership had a hand to play in those who died.
Things like this further diminish public confidence... should have either made a bigger/earlier commitment to make this happen, or not make this promise...
