Agreed. Latest polling out of Wisconsin was concerning. It is still likely to be within 3 to 4 points nationally going into election day. However if you are a GOP strategist, this is what you are looking at as concerns for Trump that "could" lead to a bad loss for the GOP down ballot. That's what I meant. It's obvious they have a problem with the suburbs, but the first line of defense will be securing the "rust belt" states through trade messaging etc. As long as Biden doesn't actually win Texas, GA, AZ, Trump just needs to walk that tightrope with those swing states to pull out a win like in 16. But if Biden is able to win Wisconsin/Mich/Penn, and the suburban surge from 2018 to Super Tuesday continues, you are talking about a blood bath for the GOP with potentially losing the Senate, and really impacting these states for years in regards to Democratic state run infrastructure. But for Trump it's again all about Wisconsin, Penn, and Michigan. All they care about is getting re-elected and keeping the Senate. The GOP old hats, and strategists care about a whole heck of alot more.
Strategically speaking for Trump, Pence was a good pick in 2016. It shored up the evangelical vote. (Im not sure why people question why Evangelical support Trump so emphatically...Its because of Pence). Trump of course is well known to shake the crib, even if it breaks tradition. I would much rather support Trump with Haley on the ticket than Pence. I dont think a switch will bother any die hard Trump supporters. Pence likely wants out and Haley wants in. Win Win for Trump. Biden and Bernie really should be signaling who they will select as their VP. It will make a big difference in both the primaries and general. Im more likely to support a Biden/Klobuchar than a Bernie/whoever. If either put Beto, Booker, or Harris on their ticket, at best, I will stay home.
I'm not sure Haley wants in or not. She seemed happy to leave the rat's lair when she did. I guess it boils down to ambition for 2024 and whether or not she thinks she could escape Trump's orbit without a permanent stain, if not indictments -- most cannot.
Being in an Administration with Trump means being forced to publicly debase yourself repeatedly for his ego - look at the dozens of examples we have. Some take to it with aplomb like Rudy, people with a consicience have more trouble with it.
The Corona Virus provides that opportunity for Trump to dump Pence. by naming Pence to head the task force for CoronicVirus, Trump is setting up the non-scientist / non-healthcare professional for failure. Trump's modus operandi has been to name Jared the head of everything, but not corona virus.
VP's really don't. They are more to shore up a weakness In 2016, that was evangelicals. Hence Pence (who took a big leap of faith just taking the job) In 2020, I could see Haley making sense. Does that mean he'll switch? Don't know that I see that. Trump values loyalty, and might not want to break up a winning team. No idea how helpful, or not, Pence has been behind the scenes. Another plus for Pence...he stays out of the news. I don't think Trumo wants a VP who would s li ways be in the news
That last part is why I struggle to see this. Trump doesn't like people who steal spotlight from him. Pence is his perfect VP.
Hope this isn't true as Haley is one of the few people I was counting on to pick up the pieces of the laughingstock that was once the GOP once Leader Trump finally leaves office in 2024. But yeah, like others have said, recently she seems to be coming around to the Trump way of (not) thinking - tweeting that democrats love Iran, defending the confederate flag, etc. She may end up just being another sellout like Ted Cruz and Dan Crenshaw before her.
No, she's white... Indian Nikki Haley Says She Is White https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2011/07/indian-nikki-haley-says-she-is-white/
I wouldn't hate this. Pence has lasted longer in the admin than most. She is very likeable and could see her leading the party for years to come.
Well, he could always dump the person 1 day after the election. Lame duck Trump would truly be unleashed.
I cannot see it either...... unless he thinks it will help with female voters. However, I am not even sure that would happen as I think nothing is covering up Trump's issues with women.
Yep. Pence's job is to stand behind Trump and slightly to the left (Trump's left) looking with glowing pride at Big Orange Brother.
Normally people's cadence, speaking style doesn't bother me but Pence drives me crazy. It's so weird when he speaks. Would much rather listen to Donald.
I stand corrected, and I deeply apologize. Please let me know if she changes race.....or gender.....or anything else of note in the future.
The question is would she bring back suburban college educated women? Not surprising that Trump supporters would support this but the big question is does it help his chances at getting these voters back especially when Haley has to absorb all of the Trump stink and sycophancy that we all know she’ll have to do under that MAGA platform. We all know she’s more likely to change in Trumps direction than he is to change to her perceived stances on the issues like race, etc. I personally think she could help a little but it’s more about Biden’s campaign and how he performs to turnout those suburbs in the way they’ve been showing up. Haley will look more like Trump than Biden to those voters with 6 months on the campaign trail. The purpose of bringing in a Haley is to look like Biden in the suburbs. On her own ticket... sure she could look more like Biden than 70 year old Biden. That’s just not the reality though with Trump at the top. The Midwest rust belt though is still where the election will be won. Oddly enough I think Trump would benefit more with Bernie as his VP than Haley. Trade and the economy are what gets Trump re-elected unless Biden can turn Texas and GA blue.
