The known economy is nothing more than an economy that grows on the backs of consumer debt. That is the "known entity".

Encourage Americans to rack up debts during booms and then proceed to default in mass during crashes hence our never ending cycle of booms and busts that Overwhelmingly negatively impacts middle class and poor Americans vs the owners of significant capital.

This is something that both "establishment" wings of our two parties are complicit in.

The effort of Bernie supporters to find reasons why Bernie has underperformed compared to their expectations is quite remarkable. The persistence is something to behold. In Texas today, 21% of the Democratic vote in the presidential primary was by Black Texans, and 60% of those Black Texans voted for Joe Biden. Actually, they are simply Texans, but you were interested in the “Black” vote. I hope I cleared that up for you. Draw your own conclusions. I don’t doubt that you will.

Texas has been officially won by Joe Biden.

Que? Did you read my exchange with @Mr.Scarface ?

He made a comment about Bernie's "black problem" and I'm looking for a substantive reason why he has a "black problem" while stating that I believe it's a self fulfilling prophecy from a media created narrative.

Look dude, I'm more than willing to support Biden over Trump. It's an obvious choice for me. No need to attempt to belittle here.

I was just thinking something similar .... looking for reasons / excuses why their candidate didn't do better / win.

None of those reasons / excuses consider the fact that he just might be a poor candidate.

I'm content that Biden won Texas and had a good day in many other places setting him up to be the nominee - It means I won't be voting for Trump come November.

Yes, but I'm asking for a substantive reason based on his policy record and rhetoric for why he has a "black problem".

So you're going to vote for Biden right? I hope so.

It’s 2 in the morning. I freely admit to skimming some of these posts. If I misunderstood something, my bad. The information I gave is interesting, however. Biden was expected to win the “Black vote,” and in Texas, and elsewhere, he did. Whether that reflects an “inherent” problem Bernie has with that segment of our population, or simply that they genuinely like Biden, and think that he works for their interests? I lean towards the last option. That they like Joe and a significant majority think that he understands the issues that are most important to them.

I guess but I genuinely don't see what those issues are when you compare them to Bernie.

I think it's a combination of being Obama's VP and just being deathly afraid of Trump which is understandable where they feared for the electability of Sanders in the general.

What has Bernie Sanders delivered for black Americans? Not promised, but delivered. My candidate Pete had the same issue. Both Bernie and Pete are good guys with ideas that could advance the interests of black Americans. The policy proposals sound great, but results matter. And it’s more than running your campaign with x% people of color.

Bernie has not delivered much since becoming a senator, especially so for black Americans. A downside of being uncompromising and sticking with your ideology instead of pushing for progress, even if incremental.

Pete's issues had a lot to do with how he handled some racial issues in his police department

What has Biden accomplished for Black individals?

I really don't want to speak for black people and assume what all their problems are. They aren't a monolith anyways but I just don't see why Bernie would inherently have a "black problem".

I wonder if there is the minority being on bad terms with another minority undercurrent outside of the fact that Buttigieg had that body camera policy mishap (i didn't know black officers were fired inappropriately under his watch). Not that I want to enter the identity politics crazy space here. But we did see immigrants voting for xenophobe anti-immigrant Trump in higher than expected proportions based on those undercurrents (arguably.)

Same could be applied to Sanders for he represents the jewish vote to some, possibly.

Biden is tight with Obama and is a democrat with ID recognition and lots of endorsements - who else among democratic nominees can claim this? Almost makes it unfair where 20% of democrats will vote for you, sort of, by default. No wonder Obama didn't endorse Biden.

I think when it comes to black voters and Biden it's very much a legacy thing. Most trust Biden and believe he'll fight for them and won't leave them behind.

They have to fight for him too, not just now, but in the general.

One thing to keep eye on for the general (If Biden wins, Bernie is still very much in this, not sure why people are mourning over his grave)
Trump has been trying...actually harder than previous GOP candidates, to get more of the black vote. We all laugh about the Kanye West stuff and him getting to know other rappers but him just talking to those people has given him ideas on how to tap into more of that vote for himself. He actually talks a lot about criminal justice reform and he has done some work there. Trump was never going to win the black vote of course but a 2-3% increase could hand him the election.

With Biden though, that is one of his strengths and he can protect from Trump bleeding away black voters.

And if Biden gets Obama on the campaign trail I'd feel very confident of winning.

This politico article argues that black vote is pragmatic where they want someone who can win and that ID recognition also plays a big role. But there is no solid proof presented. It also outlined that younger generation is for Bernie in that electorate too which means that Biden is likely to outperform prediction polls among black voters.

Obama campaigned for Hillary. I guess, we can hope that he does even more of it for the 2020 nominee regardless of who it is (although it might invigorate the Trumpers).

It's so annoying watching them talk about the rigged primaries and how the "establishment" is suppressing Bernie. Literally drives me fkin crazy. Bernie supporters are flocking reddit claiming how Biden will sell them out to the Billionaires and they'll never vote for Biden. Complete baboons.

The sad and upsetting part is that its not like Bernie can endorse Biden and claim all he was saying was horseshit. The damage that Bernie causes the party is unrepairable.

In the long term the economy has been growing quiet well (per first world country standards). So this whole narrative of booms and busts being a bad thing is not going to make a dent among the "managerial class" support. Government driven economy of socialist countries doesn't show much overall promise and neither is there any certainty that consumer debt will go down in the long term because college & health care is free. Consumer debt is based on consumer choices. We already a consumer driven economy. How much more consumer driven should we get?

2008 was the biggest bust cycle in a while and I would argue it was an exception due to some really complicated derivatives that market didn't understand that caused a huge bubble in a huge market of the economy. Hopefully, we learned from it and dodd frank was put in place (to later be partially repealed by Trump) to protect against such issue in future.

I doubt many people can truly understand the economic implications of Sander's proposals, so talking about this is in general useless, which is why Sanders doesn't try and talk any math during debates.

Just be honest and say that Sanders is a populist like Trump but not as good at being a populist unlike Trump. He is certainly outside of mainstream politics, which is why people cap him at 30% on here.
