Trump knows he doesn't have to gain voters, he just has to convince people that Dems are corrupt, have no morals, and don't care about minorities. The game is about suppression. Even if the scandals don't land some people out there are not going to be enthusiastic to vote. Trump is going to make Biden look weak as hell with his insults and Biden's fumbling around. Hilary was a stronger, more competent candidate than Biden and Trump successfully got people to think she was more corrupt than she was, more out of touch with minorities than she is, more out of touch with the rust belt policies. Imagine what Trump will do to Biden with so much meat on that bone... oh boy. Biden will need more than "Trump is Trash" energy to win. His base will have to be with him no matter what. Biden doesn't have that.
Ya but you know that the Republicans are gonna set up a bunch of hearings investigating his son's position on the board and Joe's relationship with Ukraine right? Biden is running on his integrity and "restoring" the respect/honor of the presidency, if he comes off as some nepotistic **** during the campaign without an adequate defense it's gonna look real bad. The media has so far let biden off the hook for the whole Ukraine thing, but Trump won't let it go. It's gonna be brutal, the same way that the socialist/commie attacks on Bernie are gonna be brutal. But Bernie is at least running on a bag of populist policies and is mentally coherent and disciplined enough to ward off attacks.
She should win because she is more experienced, smarter, harder working, more talented and not an octogenerian curmudgeon with tons of baggage. Unfortunately she probably won't win because of these things. But if Bernie cares about his policy goals more than his own bid, he should try to help her. But that is generally not the Bernie we know, it tends to be more about Bernie! than it is about the policy goals in the end. I'm sure Amy and Pete thought they should win too, they decided instead to try to stop Bernie. If Bernie wants to stop Joe, he needs to do the same.
Ann Althouse for one has commented on Trump's humor and comedic skills many times. This is a pretty common observation about Trump and not at all controversial
I voted for Warren. I have concerns about all of the top four Democrats, but I believe her proposals are more in line with what this country is willing to get behind at this point. Her only real chance at this point is a convention play, and I want to keep that chance alive for her. I don't doubt Bernie's sincerity for one moment and will CAMPAIGN and donate this fall if he's the nominee, which it looks like he will be. If his policies miraculously come to fruition I'm more than okay with that. I voted for him in '16 but had to go with my gut this time. I believe either beats Trump in the general election, but we shall see.
Hillary was a much more disliked candidate than Biden which you have couriously left out. Oh yeah she also had an anchor tied around her with Bill while the me too movement was full blown. What meat is on the bone that Biden is corrupt or that he is out of touch with minorities?
Ill do you one better. one vote doesn't really count anyways. I would do my part to though tell people to not vote for Biden. Explain to them how the corporate media and billionairs did whatever they could to stop them. Watch the failure that Trump will be and try again in 2024 with Bernie's heir apparent or Andrew Yang which I really think has a chance in the future.
All these Hilary scandals were just more soft corruption that is found in politics and pretty much ignored. It was Trump that continually put it in the media that made it so huge. Imagine what Trump will do with Biden and his son as the reason he got impeached and then acquitted in the senate. Imagine what Trump is going to do with Biden's terrible record on pretty much everything. We are all betting that just because Biden isn't a woman, and more liked than Hilary because he was Obama's VP, none of this will matter. It's not looking good if this guy is the nominee.
Sorry to hear that. It's tough when your candidate isn't doing well and I can empathize with that. Hopefully, we can all work together in the future for progressive values and not just individual candidates.
We will see, Howard Deane was also thought of like this. Why does the DNC not have any future, they have been fine before Bernie and they did win the popular vote in 2016 and the house in 2018. I am sure there will be somebody to take the torch of Bernie and hopefully they will understand that you have to build a coalition and not demonize the majority.
Ann Althouse? Come on dude Althouse will never be considered as having a common observation. The fact that you had to use her as an example shows how off you are. How much are they actually paying you for this?
I could have said "anyone who doesn't have Trump Derangement Syndrome" . . . but then as an OMB-type you would have been offended
You do realize that you can make this exact same argument AFTER the election right? You also do realize how much harder it will to enact a Bernie type of policy agenda in 2025 when the party of Trump has a 6-3 Supreme Court majority don’t you? I’m sorry but this entire attitude is pure self defeating insanity and I’m sure Texx, Mick, and Bobby are loving every second of it. Simply stated .... this is dumb.
All relevant points. It’s why this is such a nerve racking election. The honest answer is everyone ... even Bloomberg... should beat Trump but the reality is it all comes down to performance in June-Nov in dealing with all the BS Trump will throw at the Dem. At this point it’s all theoretical about how the nominee will fair. As I mentioned before though... yes I 100% believe Biden is a risky candidate but so is everyone. If there was a sure bet, that candidate would have already been the nominee.
Here two very funny and famous comedians with the same exact point I made. I've seen more, I've seen many political commentators, comedians acknowledge that Trump's whole style is being a roaster and comedian, if you watched the Republican debates in 2016 it's very easy to see.
The DNC is just going to have to adjust eventually to their future voters is all I'm saying. IF not, those voters may go elsewhere. I fully expect them to do so as it'll be a natural transition from now to that point, but if they are actively fighting against their future voters 10 years from now my guess is the party will split completely. In that post I did say that could happen. If Biden gets in there and shows that neoliberalism can solve their issues then maybe more people will be willing to stick with it on the left. It has to work though, his presidency, should he win, can't cut out these people.
The reopening of a criminal investigation into Hillary Clinton days before the election was a big deal. As was her lack of campaigning in states like Wisconsin and Michigan which cost her the electoral college. She won the popular vote by a reasonable amount. Unless there is something not known by the DNC, there isn't much to really go at Biden on by Trump. What is he going to do? Call him a racist or sexist? Trump hates **** hole dark people. He was accused of rape by his ex-wife. Criticize Biden for his position on criminalization from decades ago? Sanders supported the crime bill and Trump wanted innocent black men killed in NYC, to the point he bought half a page in the New York papers calling for it. Criticize Biden for his useless son profiting off Biden's fame? Trump's children are whores that suck at their dad's teat exploiting their father being President. There is almost nothing Trump can come at Biden for that he himself hasn't done worse..... he cannot even go the socialist angle with Biden. It looks bad for Biden being the nominee but it would look good for the guy proposing a 100 trillion dollar budget increase, that is a socialist democrat, is coming off a heart attack at nearly 80 years old? On a side note, Biden isn't going to get "smoked" in the debates because of who he is debating. He is debating a blow hard that lost the debates to Clinton. At worst Biden AND Trump look foolish, like a couple of 75+ year old idiots challenging each other to a fight. Honestly this election is less about Sanders and Biden and more about Trump and his presidency. The Sanders wing of the party will have their day in the sun sooner than later, but the voters are not quite there yet.
Of course he will roast Biden and come at him from a comedic angle.... he is good at it in a very simplistic way... However Biden is more than capable of firing back because he is not at all nervous on the stage. Having a single candidate will make a difference too. There will be moments where Biden pulls a Biden and half the people smile and half the people are horrified.......... but Trump will have those same moments as well. There is no chance of Trump just running over Biden, because that isn't Biden's personality or style.
Wow. and this video is done by a liberal! Biden simply isn't all there mentally. The democratic party prefers nominating Biden, risking a likely loss to Trump, over putting Bernie out there.
