I agree that the dems should not be piling on at this point but it's a ready made ad showing how incompetent he and his admin have been.

    This is really scary ****.

You can draw a direct line from incompetence and what happened to those cruise ship passengers.

It's not just owning the libs anymore is real world consequences for everyday people.

And stuff will continue to come out.

As of today President Donald Trump’s approval rating is at the highest point of his presidency, his disapproval rate the lowest, and the difference between the two just 4 points, according to the RealClearPolitics Index. Even more importantly it is trending in the right direction for him. I think that Trump’s opponents should avoid rooting for coronavirus or economic decline in the hope that will change the trend. It isn’t a good look.

I don't remember this level of concern or market panic with the H1N1 virus 10 years ago. Am I just not remembering?

Was the lack of concern then because it started in the USA and spread outward?

Probably because it was just another strain of the flu.

10 years ago people had more faith in institutions to maintain the status quo.

Those institutions have weakened (and are being deliberately weakened) considerably, since.

The impact will be bad everywhere - there is no doubt about that. How do you contain something that is more infectious than the flu and yet more deadly?

The issue isn't with how bad it will get. It is how PREPARED for that badness we are and how much TIME we brought ourselves, and how much LEADERSHIP we've been given to get through the coming recession that will result from this.

Our way of life is going to be disrupted in significant way. The year and perhaps next year will be about this virus. People you know and care about will die. Over 50% of the population will get infected. That's 4 million deaths. Proper planning and delaying its spread gives us more time for a vaccine and to get critical antiviral medications manufactured and ready for those who will need it.

In other words, the response right now will cost countless lives.

When I say "how bad it will get", I mean preparation. If it gets bad in the USA, the response will be criticized.

I will take the "under" on anyone I know dying from the illness and I will take the under on 4 million American's dying from it.

So what bright side should I look at?

The bright side where he said the virus will probably just disappear?

Or the bright side where he ignored the advice of the CDC and did not quarantine infected from the cruise ship?

Or the bright side where his administration sent people unprotected to interview these infected and then let them roam the population?
Is that supposed to mean something when he just talked about the corona virus this week?

But hey I am glad that you are happy that he has yet to break 50% approval ratings.

This is noice coming from the moderate democrat.

Yeah it makes you think there is something that is not being reported.

Or maybe the market was in a bubble and this is the catalyst to sell off.

I am not going to take a bet like that with you of course. I truly hope none of us knows anyone who dies from this.

The forecast by scientists are coming out with a 40-70% global infection rate. We know 2% mortality rate in China. So 2% * 50% infection rate * 400 million people = 4 million deaths here in the US.

I think the market was looking for an excuse to self correct anyways, that's why you're seeing a drop. SARS was the most relevant panic. I remember work travel at my company stopping, Purell dispensers being installed.

    H1N1 was similar.

Who are these people rooting for the coronavirus or economic decline? Where does this garbage about dems wanting these awful things come from and why do you post it? I mean, it's nuts. Dems are just as affected by the economy and health emergencies like anyone else - perhaps more so.

From what I understand the mortality rate can't be accurately measured because we don't know the actual infection rate.

    But I am legit worried.

Neither H1N1 nor SARS was a grave as a of a threat. Coronavirus is more contagious than the flu and far more deadly.

That is correct but it could easily be above 1% which is still disastrous.
