Coronavirus is more hyped than bugbear virus. This will all go away once the weather gets warmer around those parts. Many people enjoy a doomsday scenario and the media thus boosts this all up to mass effect.
You don't need to quarantine 50 million people if you act FAST. The RO is 2.67. With education and public health measures taken from December like this : everyone is required to wear masks. disinfectants everywhere, brainwashing and educating the public about hand washing, and avoiding handshakes and close contact with others All major public gatherings cancelled Scientists analysing the chain of infections of every severe case and enforcing quarantines to those who came in contact Closing down the apparent epicenter of the outbreak - the seafood market immediately from December the RO would have fallen bellow 2 and that would buy us enough time for summer to come before it became a pandemic. Right now we would already have much more advanced test kits if that had happened. You say China wasn't going to act if they didn't know enough. Know what exactly? The Virus genes were analysed in a matter of a couple of days. That's all the time it took. The first deaths were already occuring in the beginning of December So know what exactly? An outbreak of drug resistant viral pneumonia had fallen a major city with multiple fatalities. The virus was soon found out to be a coronavirus similar to SARS. Do we need to know much more than this to act? Dont pretend like China is Nigeria that there would have to be thousands of deaths for it to do something.
This is the bright side : That infected **** eating pangolin may well have ended up saving its whole species.
At this point it is more likely that is coming from a lab designed for other purposes, experiment gone wrong than some pangolin eating bat droppings. The pangolin sounded funny. At least the lab story sounds more believable, even if that is a dangerous thought.
@Jontro I’d like to remind you all that none of you had any chance of stopping this virus Like none At least it’s not Ebola
Why it isnt believable? MERS comes from bats infecting camels. SARS came from bats infecting civets and racoon dogs. Nipah comes from bats infecting pigs and from the fruits of the trees they roost on. It causes coma, engephalitis and has a 50-75% mortality rate. Marhburg comes from bats infecting monkeys or people who enter their caves. It causes hemorhagic fever and has similar symptoms to Ebola. Ebola comes from bats infecting primates, cats, dogs and all kind of wild animals. It is nothing unbelievable.
It got similar strains to the HIV virus, a different kind of one. Very different outcomes - some have it, it has mild effect on them, but they are transmitters, then some die or at least are near death. There are several reports swirling, of it being a super virus designed in the labs. The one fact is it took the authority and others weeks to getting down to it and circle what was the reason for it all. They are still not 100% sure. We all know Chinese are good at keeping secrets. https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/01/27/dont-blame-bat-soup-for-the-wuhan-virus/ Months wasted because people thought they ate bats in China aplenty. @Jontro breh told me that more South Asians eat it. All I am saying, there are tons of rumors going round but hardly much truth to it.
All these are completely normal. A virus primary characteristic is their mutation. If the number of hosts and infections are very low, then they dont get much of a chance. But otherwise it is expected for many different strains to exist, even from one neighbourhood to the next neighbourhood. Diseases even from bacteria have often completely different forms- depending on i.e the manner of entry. Severity is just the simplest one. Asymptomatic- mild- severe- critical. There are other diseases that in one person can cause a rash in the next person it can cause coma. Asymptomatic Superspreaders have been known to exist for two centuries now. Typhoid Mary was the most famous. A seemingly perfectly healthy young woman who killed everyone she cooked for. It is also nothing strange about the reaction speed of the scientific community. Ebola has been devastating humans for decades and still there have been no definite conclusion of its natural reservoir, no vaccine and hardly any medicine. If anything in this virus the science has been working with amazing never seen before speed to counter it. As for similar strains to HIV, this is absolutely bullcrap. The study that claimed that failed their peer reviews. It is as similar as any rna virus to any other.
Well, the primary host IS the bat. The question was only the intermediate species- the wild animal that was in fact eaten/sold/handled in Wuhan. There wasnt any time wasted due to this. The test kits, quarantine and containment measures continued normally. And indeed bat is eaten in other parts of the World, like in Sulawesi, Indonesia. As it has been posted some studies done to the natives have shown that they are already infected by all kind of bat viruses. It is only a matter of time until yet another oubreak from a bat virus starts from there unless bat eating stops Bats are not to be trifled with. They seem healthy but inside their bodies they carry hundreds of viruses each.
Meanwhile in Italy the epidemic has officially reached Florence and Sicilly. Austria, France , Switzerland, Croatia and all their land border neighbours are meeting to decide on closing the borders and starting travel bans.
Wuhan has been the epicenter of nothing in the past, other than cultural, scholastic events of scientific nature. Canton, where the SARS virus spread, is more known for its people, eating species. So the probability of Wuhan being the source of it all, was minimal before the outbreak. Heck, people outside of China, did not even know where Wuhan was before the outbreak. Shet happens. Also it's just an opinion, there are not as many bats flying around, for me to believe in it 100%. You may be right, but there are still odds it might come from somewhere else.
Well, you have your opinion. There are people out there who believe the same thing. https://nypost.com/2020/02/22/dont-buy-chinas-story-the-coronavirus-may-have-leaked-from-a-lab/ Change it to Super Lab.
China stated the origin of the virus and then suppressed any dissent to that official statement. China was forced to backtrack from their original statement of origin of the virus when it came out they were incorrect/lying with their original narrative. The original narrative from China was as much of a conspiracy minded story as the people saying it is a man made virus accidentally released. Further, China has released SARS accidentally before. The bottom line is we do not know the origin of the virus and China has been caught lying multiple times during this outbreak. The lying could simply be to cover incompetence rather than to cover up a grand conspiracy as well. As a side note, the US govt needs to order a shitload of testing kits and follow the lead of South Korea which is doing MASSIVE amounts of test.
WHO has stated that they believe that Covid-19 had a natural origin. Scientists ‘strongly condemn’ rumors and conspiracy theories about origin of coronavirus outbreak A group of 27 prominent public health scientists from outside China is pushing back against a steady stream of stories and even a scientific paper suggesting a laboratory in Wuhan, China, may be the origin of the outbreak of COVID-19. “The rapid, open, and transparent sharing of data on this outbreak is now being threatened by rumours and misinformation around its origins,” the scientists, from nine countries, write in a statement published online by The Lancet yesterday. The letter does not criticize any specific assertions about the origin of the outbreak, but many posts on social media have singled out the Wuhan Institute of Virology for intense scrutiny because it has a laboratory at the highest security level—biosafety level 4—and its researchers study coronaviruses from bats, including the one that is closest to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Speculations have included the possibility that the virus was bioengineered in the lab or that a lab worker was infected while handling a bat and then transmitted the disease to others outside the lab. Researchers from the institute have insisted there is no link between the outbreak and their laboratory. “We stand together to strongly condemn conspiracy theories suggesting that COVID-19 does not have a natural origin,” says The Lancet statement, which praises the work of Chinese health professionals as “remarkable” and encourages others to sign on as well. U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R–AR) added fuel to controversial assertions on Fox News earlier this month when he noted that the lab was “a few miles away” from a seafood market that had a large cluster of some of the first cases detected. “We don’t have evidence that this disease originated there but because of China’s duplicity and dishonesty from the beginning, we need to at least ask the question to see what the evidence says,” Cotton said, noting that the Chinese government initially turned down the U.S. government’s offer to send scientists to the country to help clarify questions about the outbreak. The authors of The Lancet statement note that scientists from several countries who have studied SARS-CoV-2 “overwhelmingly conclude that this coronavirus originated in wildlife,” just like many other viruses that have recently emerged in humans. “Conspiracy theories do nothing but create fear, rumours, and prejudice that jeopardise our global collaboration in the fight against this virus,” the statement says.
