The thing I haven't heard much about with covid19 is what exactly is a mild case. Does that mean it gets resolved faster? Does it mean you still get pneumonia but just not that bad? Are the resolved cases never reinfected? I have heard conflicting things with that. Also, Iran is looking very bad, however I did see the WHO came out and said they believe the decline in cases in China. I guess we are about to find out since this thing is spreading everywhere.
A confirmed case can be a mild or severe case. Generally speaking, a severe case is a patient who experiences breathing difficulty. A mild case can either recover or evolve into a severe case. For recovered cases, the chance of a reinfection is very very low. This is because an antibody will be generated by the immune system to kill the virus. However, if the virus happens to mutate into one that is unrecognized by the antibody, a reinfection is possible. Another topic associated to reinfection is the accuracy of the virus testing procedure. An asymptomatic patient needs to be tested negative for the virus to be considered as cured. There is a chance that the testing procedure fails to detect the virus for various reasons. In this case, virus might be rediscovered in the future within the patient's body and it would look like a reinfection occurs.
Have a trip planned to Italy in mid march.. Wasn't going to the northern areas or milan anyways but getting a little worried now
Spoke to my friend in Taiwan this morning. Absolutely freaking out because they have limited masks to two per person a week. She sent me a picture of the line to get masks. It reminded me of bread lines way back when.
Market is taking a big hit from the uncertaintiy / worries over the virus. I gotta stop looking at the affects.....
Same here! I just revived the stock thread.. massive sell off today. Hopefully it followed by some big gains tomorrow.. I don't think anyone has a portfolio in the green for today lol.. yikes.. Edit: Unless anyone has a portfolio of only the TVIX (haha).
Everybody's doing it, but.... The disease is Covid-19. The virus is SARS-CoV-2. I guess people still call HIV "the AIDS virus", but nevertheless.
No no no. If you get pneumonia you are definitely not a mild case. The typical symptoms are : first DRY cough (not productive), then after a couple of days low fever, fatigue, myalgia (muscle cramps ). Not typical to get runny nose. After a few days diarrhea, vertigo, vomiting but only for a couple of days. Then if you become severely ill this is the point when you develop pneumonia and need oxygen and hospitalisation. But most people 80% get well soon without pneumonia. Of course they can still shed the virus. EDIT: This is only a typical case to give you a picture. It doesnt mean every patient will develop like that. About Iran the expert I follow has connections in Iran and has been told the death toll is way more than the refuted 50. Edit no.2: if you get it, and you recover (a resolved case) you can get reinfected of course. However you have developed antibodies so your body can battle the virus without any issue. This is immunity, same and even better than if you had a vaccine.
Look if you can get a refund now. By middle March Italy and most likely most of Europe will be on travel ban and you wont be able to visit anyway. I will probably end up in quaratine in a couple of weeks.
They are NOT typical of the new virus. Most likely you have a cold or the flu. However it isnt a pathognomic symptom- this alone cant exclude you.
Well..it is definitely noteworthy how many young without any underlying issues or previous medical conditions, doctors and nurses in China have died even when they received the best possible care from the beginning. In their 30s and even 20s way bellow the average age of the other fatalities.. So the virus load could very well be a major factor.
I just started a prepper thread to divide up those posts from the medical/social/political stuff more suited for this one.
