His manner/tone when he answered the question. But yeah, I could be reading into things that aren’t there. It just seems like he’s going to highest bidder (can’t blame him) and there’s a fairly high chance HOU doesn’t offer the top dollar figure.
I kinda disagree he will be what, 31 when he reaches free agency? As great as he has been I don’t see teams lining up to sign a 31 year old outfielder to a huge contract. I think his leadership and what he has meant to this team will lead Crane to offering as much or more than anyone else Would be interesting to see what he has already been offered and turned
I am genuinely fascinated to see what Springer would get on the open market. Aside from the obvious red flags for someone who plays like him on the wrong side of 30, I wonder what this whole scandal will do to his worth to other teams. It might be optimistic thinking, but I kind of have a hard time seeing another owner massively overpay for Springer after all of this.
So there's another open spot on the 40 man now, maybe for somebody who's actually interested in being a quality professional baseball player
Lorenzo Cain 5 yr, $80M (2018-22) is likely a reasonable comp. Regarding the whole scandal, it should not affect Springer's next contract unless other teams want the Astros to win.
I was thinking the same comp before the offseason began. Cain was inked when teams weren’t spending as much. 2019 offseason was a bigger bidding war than the past few years. Will have to see if 2019 spending habits carry into 2020 and beyond. What gives me pause is, aside from George’s stellar play (and underratedly maybe they greatest playoff performer in the past 5 years) is the top batters’ payout this offseason. I think George would’ve been the second best bat in the offseason and would’ve been offered way more than Cain’s deal if he was on the market. Obviously all different players, but 2019 brought: Rendon 7/245, Donaldson 4/92, Grandal 4/73, Moose 4/64, Abreu 3/50
I’m liking Correa for 2020 MVP. I think he can excel in this new role The Astros have found themselves in.
Unfortunately, an Astro could hit 70hr and 200rbi and they'd still find a way not to give it to an Astro.
The Us against the World season starts soon, and the World is a heavy favorite. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Astros are up to the challenge!
