I mentioned one of these in the Iowa Caucus thread. Now there is a second.

I mentioned the ad where he takes credit for the number of New Yorkers wirh health insurance coverage during his time as mayor. Pretty sure he had nothing to do with the increase. How would a mayor do that?

Now he has an ad where he talks about working with Obama on gun control and another issue. Thats not a lie but the quotes from Obama seem like endorsements. I still didn't want to start a thread until my father asked was the ad an endorsement

A politician exaggerating his accomplishments? Say it ain't so!

That's not to minimize this thread. Half-truths from politicians should be exposed, especially for a guy whose plan is to just carpet bomb us with ads. But, all politicians and indeed all job applicants do this, so I'm sure we could have the same thread for every candidate.

Don't you wish every politician was as forthright, honest, and trustworthy as the standard set by our president?

The Obama ad takes it a step further. I think he clearly means for it to sound like an endorsement which Obama has not given

I could care less if any of Democrat is telling some half truth or exaggerate something in their ads. Compared to the emperor in the white they are all super trust worthy and truthful.

This is gonna backfire on Bloomberg. Two wrongs don't make a right. This is the prmary, he is competing with fellow Democrats

I dont want Bloomberg anywhere remotely near the White House, but this doesn't really phase me at all.

The threshold for generating outrage from behavior has been completely reset to roughly "Gambino Family Capo" levels of behavior in US politics. You can figure out who is responsible. This is the new normal. Adapt or die.

    How is it gonna backfire?

    Did Obama say anything?

It's not like he photoshopped his pic in the add.

That's the sublime message. Good guess that Bloomberg got the ok from Obama prior to releasing the ads.

Maybe. I watched the ad and I didn't really get that impression. Maybe because I was watching intentionally instead of having it on TV while I cooked dinner. But it seems like fair game anyway. Biden has leveraged his relationship plenty himself.

I can see how other candidates would feel threatened by this strategy since only a couple of them could find as many clips of Obama saying their names, and none of them can broadcast it as many times as Bloomberg can.

A bunch of candidates in the last few weeks ran ads like this. Here's an article from last week:

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/02/07/obama-democratic-campaign-ads-111953

Now starring in Democratic campaign ads: Barack Obama
The former president has made a point of not endorsing anyone in the 2020 primary. The presidential candidates have made a point of ignoring that fact.

It’s crunch time in the Democratic primary, so the campaigns are leaning hard on the one thing nearly everyone in the party can agree on — Barack Obama.

Six candidates — Joe Biden, Tom Steyer, Michael Bloomberg, Elizabeth Warren, Deval Patrick and Tulsi Gabbard — have included the former president in at least one of their TV and digital ads. This week alone saw five new Obama ads on airwaves in New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

    ...

Most of the spots show footage of Obama lauding the candidates by name in his speeches or on the campaign trail. Others merely include pictures of him by their side. All drive the message that the candidates running the ads are, at least in some measure, approved by a former president who is beloved by the grassroots.

    ...

Even Warren, who had a cool relationship with the Obama administration, released a TV ad on Tuesday with a similar congratulatory message from the former president. It’s voiced over by audio from a 2010 Rose Garden speech in which Obama commends Warren for her work founding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

“Elizabeth understands what I believe,” Obama says. “That a strong, growing economy begins with a strong middle class.”

Funny, in 2016 it was run away from Obama. But its understandable these dynamics change over time

Must be nice to literally have money to burn. I must have already seen those Bloomberg / Obama ads a dozen times in Nevada, and I don't even watch that much live tv.

I can't compare him to other candidates, they aren't running ads in TX. He runs ads all morning. Its incredible. It won't dent his pocket books.

I don't have a problem with it, other than it puts a light on the system. Fundraising is obviously a test in which failing has dire consequences. So im not for a public campaign finance system. After Trump, if Bloomberg becomes nominee, then the cat is out of the bag. Why wouldn't you run if it costs nothing to you.

That being said Trump effectively used the internet. That gets lost in the noise. Others can do the same

I expect Obama approves. I do not expect any endorsement by Obama until it is clear who wins, provided it is not Bernie Sanders and then he wil be in a bind. Obama is going more the celebrity rout and though an endorsement of Bloomberg might get him more bank speaking gigs, like most celebrities he doesn't want to offend anyone as it might tarnish other opportunities to make money.

What the hell did Obama do to you?

Why can't he make money on speaking gigs?

    Why are you so miserable?
