Yeah, I know that, which is why I conceeded that if you do sign him you need to roll it all the way out. And, as Rockets fans we know offseason spats can be cured, ala Hakeem - I would rather have told Harden, nope - we are keeping CP3 and you guys work it out. DD
He’s an excellent GM who has made a couple of mistakes that he hasn’t been able to recover from. He’s also got his hands tied by an owner who sees the team as a financial investment first and foremost. I’m reasonably certain that Morey is trying everything he can to make things work under the circumstances, but he may be running out of time. My guess is that he will be working somewhere else pretty soon.
Morey has been here lone enough and we have never made the Finals and continue to get further and further away from it. That should be each and every true fans only goal. You either do the job or you don’t and he hasn’t. Add to that he has had the best player in basketball on his team for 5+ years and didn’t make the necessary moves to take us to the promiseland. Those are the cold hard facts....like it or not!!! Perhaps Bruno is the missing piece, just like Shumpert was last year. The b*stard has given away all our picks (a.k.a the future) and this crappy squad is all that he could get!!!
Wasn't it obvious last April that the "run it back" approach had more or less reached its ceiling? It sure looked that way. And if Paul's knees revert back to form... etc
How about the Paul trade that immediately made the Rockets the second best team in the league and probably would have won them at least one title if not for a certain hamstring injury? You could point to the PJ Tucker signing. The Austin Rivers acquisition and re-signing. Gambling on Eric Gordon after his injury-plagued time in New Orleans. Manimal last year. Danuel House and Ben McLemore. Bringing in D'Antoni to revamp the offense when everyone (including myself and most of Clutchfans) hated the idea. These are just things off the top of my head from the last four years. And you could point to the Melo experiment and the Paul contract and those few questionable moves, but the positives even in the last 3-4 years still dramatically outweigh the negatives.
Unless he somehow gets Draymond Green, Giannis and Aaron Brooks before the deadline, then yes, he sucks.
This is all on the owner . Its obvious that we are trading picks and certain players just to get out of the tax. How is that on the GM?
If winning a title is your only barometer to judge the success of a GM, then you're not very good at judging the work of a GM. Take Pat Riley in Miami. His job was as easy as going to Wade and saying "Hey, you think you could talk Lebron and Bosh into coming here?" Does that make him an exceptional GM? Not really. Winning titles in the NBA requires a hell of a lot more than a great GM. You need to start with at least 2 great players (who you have to get), and great players don't always want to play for you. And around those guys, you need some really freaking good players who (again) don't necessarily want to play for you. And you have a salary cap. And injuries. And guys over and underperform based on your expectations. And you have owners who hamstring you (Tilman). And drama in the locker room. And shots that don't fall that should. If Daryl Morey isn't a great general manager, then I have no clue who is...
What about not resigning Ariza and Luc at the same time, Brandon Knight/Marquese Chriss trade and sending Ennis for nothing. What about not having the basic understanding that can't win championship with 6'4" PF and 6'5" SF playing at the same time? and at the same time talking big all the time with big mouth.
It's not Morey's fault that he is employed by a moron who doesn't have the slightest clue or financial ability to compete in the NBA
I cant really hold Morey accountable - knowing Tilman has his grubby lil hands in things.. I'm betting the WB trade woulda gone a lot different without TFs involvement... Moreys strengths are as a negotiator and his ability to find ways to circumvent things such as the salary cap... but when you got Tilman all antsy to pull the trigger on moves while hamstringing Morey financially... Morey can only play the course...
H He’s always been a player short (no pun intended for MDA fans) from taking us to the next level and that included his lengthy tenure under Les.
Drummond to Cleveland for Henson and Brandon Knight and we get Bruno....case in point that Morey sucks.
