I guess Shandon has let the Rockets know officially that he is opting out of his contract today, even though that wasn't a surprise.
Where did you get this information from, I want to see some proof. Not believing this, Damn Damn Damn.
Somehow I had a weird feeling that some news would come out tonight re: Shandon's status. ------------------ You're a fine woman, why don't you mock that draft up
this is his first step to leaving the rockets the draft will be the second and him signing elsewere will be the third he is to small to be a good 3 and mobly is a better 2 and we are looking for ways to replace him in the draft the one thing i will miss about him will be his defence Good luck shanon ------------------
i dont know about you guys, but I'm kinda glad that he's leaving. He hasn't shown much offensive skills. He can't hit his shots consistantly. Besides his decent defensive skills, i think he's pretty much useless. He's only a good role player. I think we'll find a good replacement for him in the draft, assuming we draft a SF. i hope he'll stick around so we can use him for trade bait. ------------------
I agree, RocketKid. And I haven't even been that impressed with his defensive skills, either. I think too much is made of his defense, since his offense is struggling, and the Rockets want to feel like they aren't playing this guy as the starting 3 for nothing. ------------------ What is daylight savings time? the only way you could say that shandon plays good defense is if you consider letting the other guy break off 30 instead of his average of 35 good defense. [This message has been edited by gram! (edited May 30, 2001).]
Shandon definetely wasn't a defenive stopper the last couple of years, but he was by far our best perimeter defender. He's not great (or as great as what we hoped he would be) but he is the type of role player that each championship teams needs. I wish he would stay but if he stayed he wouold be a SF, which he doesn't want to play.
The Rockets don't owe Anderson anything. Anderson very well knew that in order to get the type of money he was seeking, he had to perform as expected. And obviously he believed he could become into an all-star type player. Well, if Anderson leave, it's because he did not deliver. The Rockets would have given him the max happily if he'd averaged 19.5 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals per game. The problem is that Anderson could not carry that load. Don't get me wrong, he tried. Scoring 20 points numberous times. But an under double digit average just doesn't merit 9 million dollars a year. I'm glad Anderson came to Houston. However, I just would have hoped he could have fared like he and all of us expected him to play. One more note. He did get his chance, starting almost all of his games. Injuries were not to blame. Just missed shots and more opportuinites. If this is it for Anderson and he moves to another team, I say Good Luck. And Thanks for choosing Houston 2 years ago. Again Good Luck. ------------------
Shandon had an extremely disappointing season last year. His inability to knock down wide open shots killed us in a many of close games. Mobley and Francis's constant call to be doubled teamed allowed Shandon Anderson the benifit of countless open looks at the basket. Yet he failed, time, after time, to accept the reward by throwing up brick after inumerable brick. Shandon Anderson is not a good fit for this team and he should not be asked back. ------------------
Everyone knows, you get contracts for services rendered the last 2 years!! And the last 2 years have been bench player numbers! ------------------
He just didn't fit in well with the Houston system. Best of luck! ------------------ Founding Father of the Refs Suck Club
Rocketball -- was this on FOX 26 last night? That's what I was hearing... seeking confirmation on this, though it's a given anything you post is legit. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
aka vince.. i wish but it seems many on here think we should still be paying Hakeem for 95. Although we gave him 16 mil to do nothing the last two years. So i guess it isn't just by the last two years.. ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
who here thought he wouldn't opt out the moment he signed with us. He has to opt out to get a raise from us. It is natural for him to opt out to get his Early Bird raise. We can probably even guess that the whole reason he signed a 3-yr deal versus a 2-yr deal was protection against a career-ending injury. Shandon has his role. He is not a bad player by any stretch. This is just negotiation time. My starting bid would be the option year rate of $2.4? Fegan will counter with $6m. I would say, go to market then and shop him at that price. If you are willing to stay under the Early Bird maximum, come back to us. Oh, and Dan, tell your client he will have to compete for his starting role this year. We are not promising him anything this time. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited May 30, 2001).]
Any word on Shandon's temperament Clutch? I took the time to put Bradley at #13. ------------------ You're a fine woman, why don't you mock that draft up

Clutch, You are right, it was on Fox 26 sports last night, Mark Berman reported it. They also interviewed Dan Fagen, Shandon's agent, and said that his client needed to check the free agent waters. Good luck, Shandon. They also interviewed Moochie and Cuttino, and both saying he was like a brother and that they did not want to see him go, but they understood that sometimes you have to be selfish. They both consider him their defense of stopper, and vital for the success of the team. But, the way they said it didn't sound like they would lose sleep if he was gone, just my opinion.
Something someone said bothered me... "only" a role player? I remember a couple years ago, when people kept on talking about the players we "needed" to win a championship. I think HP and a couple other guys went back, and tried to find the # of players in the NBA that fit prototypical positions. There weren't many. Good role players are: 1. essential, 2. harder to find than you think, and 3. worth hanging on to if you want to build chemistry. There's absolutely no guarantee of getting a viable NBA player at the #13. Shandon wasn't a starter... but he would be in the top 8 rotation of most NBA teams. His defense *was*, imo, very good. Easily the best defensive player on the team when Dream wasn't healthy. Richard Jefferson *may* fill that role. But even if he can, they still have to spend a draft pick to get him. ------------------ A few years back on the Senate floor... Phil Gramm: "If Democrats could, they'd tax the air we breathe."
