This is the (predictable) tweet that all other Republicans were so afraid of being lobbed at them. What a bunch of titty-babies.
The outcome was a foregone conclusion from the start, the only thing now it shows is that presidents are above the law in the future. If someone like Sanders or AOC get elected in the future, they are free to do whatever they want, which I think is a terrible thing for the country. You can bet some far extreme left person (more extreme than any current Democrats) will get elected in the future, I just hope I don't live to see it and the GOP don't cry at that time, if it is still a national party. The impeachment tool can be pretty much thrown into the trash can for all practical purpose.
It seems that way. I mean, if for example, a President Warren wanted to deny all constitutionally authorized requests from a GOP-led Congress, it seems to me she could totally do that now. Just raise the middle finger and order all agencies not to comply. That's what Trump did, and he was acquitted of obstructing Congress. And pretty much anything goes now in terms of wielding the highest office to maintain power and personal gain. Or do impeachment "trials" not set precedent of some kind? I honestly don't know.
GOP senators reject punishing Romney for impeachment vote https://thehill.com/homenews/senate...reject-punishing-romney-over-impeachment-vote
It's interesting though. If Trump can literally order people "expelled" from the GOP, then the org ceases existing as a political party in the true sense of the world. They would become (have become already?) just the scaffolding for Donald Trump's political career. This will probably work as well, long term, as it did for his Trump-branded casinos.
congressman mccarthy, trying to be funny. But trump will always been known as the president that was impeached, and a bipartisan group of senators voted to remove him from office and only prevented by a republican majority. And... he can always be brought up on more charges...
Crazy as it is, I right now think Romey's vote saved the nation from going down that path of no return. Impeachment is still valid and a danger to future presidents.
They had slide decks with these bullets laid out., probably even more succinctly that were presented during the trial. lt was repeated over and over (GOP senators complained bitterly about this) But the news cycle now doesn't work that way, it's messenger focused more than message focused
i would like live coverage of Susan Collins’ face during tomorrow’s rant. EDIT: everyone should note again, he’s equating himself with the “Country.”
"False charges"? Well, lets see what leading United States senators say to that question: republican senator Mitt Romney: "The grave question the Constitution tasks senators to answer is whether the president committed an act so extreme and egregious that it rises to the level of a 'high crime and misdemeanor,' Romney said in a dramatic floor speech, in which Romney choked up while discussing how he is guided by his faith. "Yes, he did," Romney said. "The president is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust. What he did was not perfect. No, it was a flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security and our fundamental values," Romney said. "Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine." republican senator susan collins: While there are gaps in the record, some key facts are not disputed. It is clear from the July 25, 2019, phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky that the investigation into the Bidens’ activities requested by President Trump was improper and demonstrated very poor judgment. Regardless, it was wrong for President Trump to mention former Vice President Biden on that phone call, and it was wrong for him to ask a foreign country to investigate a political rival. republican senator lisa murtkowski: Murkowski acknowledged that Democrats had proved wrongdoing by Trump. "Based on what we heard, clearly a factor in that was the president was looking for a certain action from President Zelensky as it related to the Bidens," she said. "I believe that." But despitearguing that Trump's "behavior was shameful and wrong," Murkowski said it was up to voters to decide whether to remove the president from office. republican senator lamar alexander: There is no need for more evidence to prove that the president asked Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter; he said this on television on October 3, 2019, and during his July 25, 2019, telephone call with the president of Ukraine. There is no need for more evidence to conclude that the president withheld United States aid, at least in part, to pressure Ukraine to investigate the Bidens; the House managers have proved this with what they call a ‘mountain of overwhelming evidence.’
