Covington is so much better than Capela it's not even close you noobs.

Capela puts up fake "Allstar" stats being spoon fed by elite guards, but his impact on winning is minimal and has been unplayable in certain playoff matches.

Covington is the polar opposite. He is an elite role player on his own, but when put in the right situation next to the right players (elite play making guards) his impact on winning(not stats) is damn near Allstar level - a legit dpoy candidate.

Giving up a 1st round pick balances the trade. But we also get to dump Nene's contract, and get a 2nd rounder plus expiring back.

All in all this is a huge upgrade talent wise, giving up a bit of the future with that low 1st, but also opens up a hole at C. If we can get Looney, or if Hartenstein can step up, the trade will be a home run.

Morey has had his faults lately and in hindsight his record is far from impeccable(letting Covington go in the first place for starters). As a fan of his he really hasn't lived up to the messiah memes that he's garnered over the years imo. With that said, at certain times over the years he has been bashed by fans over deals only to look like a genius after. Alston for Lowry comes to mind. This is another one of those cases.

How do you want to add this center? Nene and Green are gone. As is the Rockets 1st rd pick.

I guess you could just bring the guy in using a TPE, provided he's less than 3.6 million. We certainly have the tax room now. I'm sure it's been covered somewhere in this 32 page thread, but the Rockets just dumped 6 million in salary with this move, right?

Covington had better be awesome in this system. Bell's got some big shoes to fill too.

At least it's not a pure dump, and they did get Covington.

I think we got screwed again. An older player ranked 105 for a 20th ranked player. Then we give up more on top of it. They knew they could screw Morey over just because of our small ball and small minds focusing on getting a forward at all cost. I expected 2 better forwards for all we gave up. I love getting another forward, but not by getting screwed.

Whether his addition helps us win isn't the point. The point is we basically gave away a 20th ranked player out of desperation. We just got a older, and will still be manhandled on the boards by any big teams.

Need Covington to give us Great D, 5 3s a game and 10 rebounds.

Terrible trade but will try to be optimistic.

i didn't even want capela re-signed 2 summers ago. for me the fool isn't even a bball player, just a pogo stick without any brain/heart/skills. but i have serious reservations about covington living up to the lofty hype. he has not looked the same defensively since the surgery, and he was already a limited athlete to begin with. his shooting is very streaky, something that is already killing this team. his ballhandling and ability to finish on drives are both shaky. and during his lone playoff run a couple seasons ago he looked not good at all.

giving up the 1st to get under the lux tax yet again is just the tilfuk cherry on top. even worse that the 2nd rounder we get back is in year 2024

Denver did really well out of this, for basically holding our hair back as we threw up. Bates-Diop, Vonleh, Napier (Green's just an expiring) and our 1st, for Beasley, Hernangomez, and Vanderbilt? I.e., basically clearing off the end of the bench. Bates-Diop and Vonleh were two names mentioned a lot here as nice pieces to go with RoCo.

    Not bad.

Crazy to think that the ROX had COV in the GLeague, developed him, traded him, and are now overpaying for him! My how the pendulum swings in desperation.

I really hate Tilman. I hated him back when he sued the Hofheinz family to change the name of Hofheinz Pavillion to the Fertitta Center.

It's the Tilman and Morey way

I don’t know if I can wholeheartedly say Morey is to blame - think about it Morey has a reputation for maximizing return in trades - the last few years it’s just a different feel to the moves. Less flexibility, strange philosophical fits. I think Fertitta meddles more than anyone knows. Just a matter of time before Morey is out anyway.

I haven't watched Covington this year so I was just going by historically. He's 29 years old so hopefully he can recover and get back to his peak.

Huh? Where are you getting these rankings from? On what planet is Capela the 20th best player in basketball?

i agree that he's a definite upgrade over capela in most instances. but at the same time our frontcourt is going to get pounded and in a 7game series it will definitely take it's toll. just like w/ the westbrook trade we could have gotten much more value out of this, actually taking on more salary to add talent. absolutely amazing that in every single trade transaction made during the tilman era we have taken back less salary than we sent out. in more than a dozen trades. every single one of them. this fuking guy

So Daryl Morey's not the general manager of Houston Rockets? You guys will give this man credit for everything, but when a questionable move is made, it's Tilman or MDA's fault. In Morey you trust?

It is a make or break season for RoCo.
Going to be 30 real soon.

Either he has it or not.

Defensively solid, okay but not great shooter, can he rebound well?

Another way to think about it, Covington was the headliner along with Saric that got you Jimmy Butler.

Saric is probably worth a lot less today, but last year he was packaged with the 11th pick to move up to 6th. So let's give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was worth a mid to low 1st rounder.

That means Covington and a mid to low first got you Jimmy Butler. Offer Capela with a low first for Butler and you get laughed in your face.

Covington turned 29 less than two months ago.

There’s over 12 million left to improve the roster guys. Let this play out. We sorely needed a 3 and D and have Covington. Capela was not going to get us through the playoffs.

Did B.O.B appoint himself gm of the Rockets also?
