Given his frequent tirades against people kneeling during the anthem, and the outrage he generated, I think his own words have made it relevant. I'm confident Trump doesn't actually believe in anything but his own ego.
lol dude fancies himself a god. But it's really of no shock that he doesn't drink his own coolaid. Dude is a straight up politician and anyone surprised should have their head examined.
Aside from Trump, I see in the video Melania and Barron with hand on heart, a guy messing with his cellphone who does touch 2 fingers to his heart at the last second, a woman standing beside him who sometimes looks like she might have her hand up but other times looks like she's just standing and watching, another guy behind them bobbing to get a better look past their heads, the blotted-out face of a person taking the selfie video (with a hat on, the horror!), a guy behind Barron who seems to be showing something on his phone to someone and not paying any attention, another guy behind him sitting down (!) at a table having a conversation, a head that passes by in the back (maybe a server?) paying no attention, someone holding up a light probably from another cellphone recording the scene, and then the heads of a few more people standing and either chatting or watching the apparent tv screen without any way of knowing what they're doing with their hands. This is not a particularly patriotic tableau. I will grant that Trump is a clown for playing conductor in that moment.
I happened to be standing at that time as well. I was making tacos. The lady singing did a good job. When i have people over for games we stand up and pay attention. Bad look for our president but not the end of out democracy like swallwell contends.
I agree the whole thing is stupid but he cannot call out Kap and then do this especially when his son and wife are doing it. This ad rights itself and I would run it continuously especially harping on the fact Melania is showing more respect than him. I bet Trump feels just like you do and it showed in his actions.
The vast majority of watchers continue whatever they are doing while watching on TV. However, when everyone else is standing at a party, perhaps the President should as well.
Lordy, he was standing. He just wasn't being respectful, just like everybody else at that party aside from Melania and Barron. Agreed. But, he's not wrong now -- he was wrong back then. It does us no good at all if he now salutes every time the anthem is sung. But it would have done us some good had he refrained from making Kap's political protest into his own wedge issue to divide the country on.
My point is, if one openly and publicly criticizes those who don't respect the anthem, then that person damn well better respect the anthem every time it is played.
