If you are trying to say that the length of time from subpoena rejection to Supreme Court decision is one year, well, that wasn't what happened. Timeline of United States v Nixon The final subpoena that led to US v Nixon was on April 24th, 1974. Impeachment inquiry began May 9th. US v Nixon ended July 24th Spoiler: The Year of Subpoenas You are talking about the long drawn-out period of subpoeanes, releasing tapes, discovering gaps in tapes, then requesting more,,,that won't happen with Bolton. Once they zero'd into exactly what tapes Nixon didn't want to give up (e.g., The Smoking Gun), that subpoena to Supreme Court decision took 3 months. The first subpoena (July 23rd, 1973) was during the Senate Watergate investigation of John Dean, not Nixon. Remember, Nixon wasn't even aware of Watergate, and he fkked up by obstructing the investigation of others. They weren't investigating Nixon, yet. This first subpoena came the same day revelation that the taping system existed. This was due to Dean saying Nixon could have been informed of Watergate break-in as early as Sept 1972, they found out about tapes, then wanted to confirm Dean's comments. There was a long drawn-out compromises releasing some things but not everything.
I wonder if its legal or ethical for a lawyer to represent a client that they were a party to or witness to a crime?
crooked from the head of the snake on down. Voters better care and show up in November. Those of us who care at all better work on voter drives.
I agree overall, but tend to be wary of “throwing the baby out with the bath water”. America needs to start investing itself instead of using tax breaks and giveaways to the supply siders...
Oh , the FACT that the SCOTUS took that case within ~75ish days and issued a unanimous decision is refutation of your fear mongering - It'll take years !!!!!
Yeah , I saw that crap on CNN last night , they've scared you into believing Trump is gonna make their votes not count in California! Fear mongering doesn't work on me .... The system will protect itself , At Worst Trump will be gone Jan 2024 and the next POTUS likely being a Dem will wipe away everything Trump with executive orders. Speaking of EO's - I detest them. Its Congress job to make laws , not the presidents. Someone needs to play that little video they used to play on PBS during the morning cartoons for these clowns about how bills / law is made - House > Senate > POTUS.
Glad to see you are continuing to lift the veil. The fact you are trying to peddle the theory that this all started from a pee pee tape shows your real colors. Why are you all embarrassed to say you are all in on Trump. Trump is pissed off? How do you think Obama felt? Or Clinton or Bush? How is this in any way an excuse for his behavior.
Says the guy who posted that everything started because of the pee pee tape. Nobody called you a fascist stop with clutching of pearls.
I don't watch CNN so not sure what you are talking about. And your faith in the system is misguided. Any system can be broken, complacency is how democracy can end. Our politicians have failed us. Now we have to hope the electorate can overcome interference if they wise up
I'm saying that the total time it took from the first subpoenas for the Nixon's Tapes to the actual final release of them is over 1 year. There were partial and incomplete releases during that period. I'm not sure if there were multiple court cases or if it was one court case for these tapes, but that's not that important IMO. The complete timeline is relevant and more important. Also of note is that BOTH sides agreed to skip the appeal process and asked the Supreme Court to take the case without waiting for a decision from the Court of Appeals on May 24, 1974. The Supreme court agreed to. https://www.fordlibrarymuseum.gov/museum/exhibits/watergate_files/content.php?section=3&page=d Spoiler: Timeline July 23, 1973 The Watergate committee and special prosecutor Cox demand Nixon surrender certain tapes and documents. July 25, 1973 Nixon refuses to surrender the tapes, claiming executive privilege. July 26, 1973 The Senate committee subpoenas White House tapes. August 9, 1973 Nixon refuses to comply and the Senate committee takes legal action. August 29, 1973 Nixon loses his first court battle when Judge Sirica orders him to hand over nine tapes for private review. ... October 23, 1973 Feeling the heat, Nixon agrees to surrender some tapes. November 21, 1973 The White House reports that two of the subpoenaed tapes are missing and one contains an erased gap of 18 ½ minutes. Nixon’s secretary, Rose Mary Woods, cannot account for what experts conclude are multiple erasures covering that span. Suspicions surface that evidence is being destroyed. April 30, 1974 Nixon ignores the subpoena and instead provides edited transcripts, announcing his intention to release a total of 1,200 such pages. The House Judiciary Committee insists on hearing the tapes. The public is shocked by the language in the transcripts, its coarser adjectives masked by the repeated phrase “expletive deleted.” July 24, 1974 The United States v. Richard Nixon: The Supreme Court decides 8-0 that the president must surrender the subpoenaed tapes, denying his claim of executive privilege.
I guess roberts gave a signal he might intercede... so murkowski voted republican and votes no on witness. The retrumplican cover-up and white-wash is complete. Laughably, her reason: Elizabeth Warren was mean to roberts. Not that trump was innocent or guilty, which apparently was beside the point.
Say what.... Leave it to Marco Rubenstein to say the dumbest thing in the world today. And that's in the same day that Donald Trump is unleashing Twitter Diarrhea.
